An original spin on snow.

Risa's summary: Princess Snow is far from being a typical princess.
Rebellious. Daring. Assertive.
Even her foster mothers would rather not be bothered with her cantankerous behaviour.
The Empress must have seen something in her, though. That would explain why she was given the opportunity to join her brothers during the imperial spring hunt.
But that doesn't explain it.
A huntsman has been assigned to kill her.
And he's right by her side.

I love, love, love retellings!

When it comes to my reviews, that could be either a good thing or a bad thing; I dive right in with pretty high expectations.

And this book! With the chapters I read -- and extra chapters I skimmed through because I just couldn't contain myself -- this book did well to meet those expectations.

It's fairy-tale meets Qing dynasty, Asian myths, and fantastical beings.
It nestled comfortably between fast-paced drama and a slow-paced expansion of events.

The well-crafted, burnished characters were a delight to follow. Descriptions flowed like exquisite, spring water. The author's worldbuilding proficiency I highly applaud.

Grammatical errors were so rare I could barely count. The book's cover certainly caught my eye, a bold statement was made. The book's blurb I found catchy but quite long.

I hope I'm right to trust that the story's central plot, and probably subplots, were firmly established throughout. The author sure seems capable of doing so.

Princess Snow and The Empress is a sensational fiction. One with resilient characters and a plot with great strength. I hope you love this one as much as I did. I'd absolutely recommend this to anyone who'd love a brilliant reinvention of a classic tale.
