Fear can consume even the strongest of hearts.
Risa’s summary: Mór Rioghain’s prophecy has become Athelstan’s bane.
And Athelstan is ready to protect his life at all costs.
The celtic people are not oblivious to the looming genocide, neither are they helpless in the face of impending doom. Who will wield power right?
In the middle of it all is Firmin, the knight commander of the king’s army, chasing peace right in the middle of chaos. Who holds the power over happiness?A striking and exceptional fiction.
This writer seems to have a knack for tying sentiment to description.
This cautiously harnessed skill impelled me to invest my emotions right from the start, I was deeply engrossed. To me, the narration fell somewhere right between tense and laid-back, between the real and unreal, the past and the present. The story rolled open at a decent pace.
However, I found the use of capital letters for emphasis quite disruptive. I've noticed it to be a common mistake some writers make in a bid to call attention to certain areas or a certain word. Now, it’s not outrightly wrong, but it doesn’t always leave the desired effect on readers. In my case, I felt like I was being shouted at. And if a fictional character must yell at me, I’d prefer that be done using accurate descriptions and dialogue tags. Shouting aside, using all capital letters tends to disrupt the smooth flow of the piece – except, you’re trying to express an increased volume or a sound.
I yearned for more insight into Athelstan’s life. What was the motivation behind the things he did? What was the reason behind his propensity for violence, and greed for power? Yes, his desire for more kill was fuelled by the prophecy, but even before the prophecy, he seemed a monster. Who knows? The answers to these questions were probably in the succeeding chapters.
Grammatical errors were present, but none too strong for a thorough edit. I quite liked the book’s cover, and the summary I found enrapturing.
Prophecy of Kings is an uncommon read with a fascinating storyline. I’d recommend this book to anyone who’d enjoy something ancient yet new, something out of the ordinary.
