Hayden finally said goodbye to his employees and headed home. When he got into his car, he fished his phone in his pocket and dialed her number for the nth time since she last texted him. It was a week ago.
"Hi, fiancé! I just want to tell you we're grabbing lunch there. I love you. Oh wait, I'll tell you that in person. See you later!"
He read it again for the hundredth time today, hoping that this time, everything will make sense.
'Alison, where are you?'
Her colleagues were there that day to have lunch. But she wasn't. Michael, one of her friends, said that she was just there but went back to the hospital immediately for some valid reason.
That same day, he called and texted her, but she was not answering. He is used to Alison's work hours. He knew she won't be able to bring her phone with her to answer his calls and texts all the time.
But after a few days of silence, he knew something was wrong. Her phone no longer rings. She's not replying even to his Mum and Hemera, which is very unlikely of her.
He waited for her in her apartment, but she never came. He's been staying there for almost a week, hoping that when she comes home, he was there, and they could talk and cuddle. But she didn't come home.
That's when he noticed that some of her clothes were gone. A few days ago, his father told him that Alison is doing okay and she was transferred to the night shift team, that's why she preferred to stay at the hospital until she was well adjusted.
He wanted so much to look for her, but his father assured him she is doing okay and would contact them when she is ready.
Even Olivia and Nike told him the same thing.
But Hayden never believed them. Something is wrong with her. And his dad is keeping him away from it. He knew she was avoiding him on purpose.
He turned on the ignition of his car and drove away. When he reached Alison's apartment, he flopped down on her bed and smelled her sheets.
Her smell is fading away. He can barely smell her sweet, sweet scent that envelopes him like a warm blanket.
Deciding to take a bath, he stood up and hit the shower. Just as he was about to put on some fresh clothes, his phone rang. It was his best friend, Adam.
"Idiot, when did you come? I'm here at our usual spot." He heard him say when he answered. He can hear the noisy background where Adam is located.
"Are you drunk? What are you talking about?"
"Oh, I thought you were here at Breakfree because Alison is here. Anyway, never mind. Bye."
"Wait! Did you just say 'Alison'?"
"Yes, that's what I said. Listen."
Hayden can hear a scratching noise before it dies down, and the only thing he can hear is Alison's singing voice.
"Do you believe-,"
Hayden didn't let him finish and hung up. He quickly put on some clothes and then went straight to Breakfree. It's a two-hour drive from here, but it's almost midnight. There won't be any traffic at this time.
When he finally reached his destination, some of the customers were already heading home.
When inside, he saw her immediately. It wasn't hard for him to recognize her in an ocean of people. He knew her too well.
From his spot, he can see her talking to a customer as she smiles a little, holding a tray.
She looks beautiful, as always.
