"Are you... are you breaking up with me now?" Alison said in between her sobs. She covered her face with her palms, hiding away from Hayden.
"What the hell?" Hayden said sharply, letting go of her hand as he stood abruptly.
Alison looked up at him with her tear-stricken face.
And as she looked into his widened green eyes, something inside her head snapped.
"No. I can't do it. I don't want to. Don't leave me." She reached up to him and held his hands. "I... I can be your mistress or fuck buddy. Just don't... don't leave me." She managed to say in between her sobs.
She was practically begging him. "I don't think I'd live without you." She whispered, not even knowing if he heard it.
"How about as my wife, Alison?" Hayden glared at Alison.
He doesn't know what is happening. Why is she acting like this? He doesn't remember telling her or even giving her a hint that they will break up.
He watched as Alison slowly raised her head to meet his blazing eyes. But as soon as he saw her bloodshot eyes and flushed cheeks, he immediately kneeled in front of her, caging her hands with his.
"I'm sorry, I made you cry, babe. But I'm not gonna leave you. You'll be my wife and the mother of my children. How am I gonna survive without you?" He cupped her cheeks and kissed her red nose.
An involuntary sob made Hayden's lips smile a little.
'She is cute when she cries like this.'
"But Nicole came back again. And you were hugging her." She whispered as she avoided his gaze.
Hayden's memory resurfaced that day. When Nicole came to see him. And Alison's colleagues were there to have a late lunch. Mike's words rang inside his brain.
'She was just here a while ago. We were talking on our way here.'
"You saw that," Hayden stated as he pulled Alison down with him on the floor. He settled her on his lap, straddling him. He felt her nodding in his chest. She sniffed. He probably was covered with her snot but that's the least of his concern right now.
"And judging by the way you cried, you didn't see the man beside Nicole," he added, hugging Alison close.
Alison pulled away and glared at him. "Ah, so she brought his father to meet you."
Hayden laughed. "No, silly. Her fiancé. They came to the restaurant to have us cater her wedding. The hug that you saw was meant for a friend who is happily engaged. I told her about us as well." He looked down at her pinkish lips, looking so soft and lush from crying. He wanted to kiss them so much.
And so he did. Just a quick peck. For now.
"But now that I think of it, the hug was unnecessary, especially in your eyes. That was an asshole move. I'm sorry, baby. Really, really sorry. I will tell my staff to call her first thing tomorrow to cancel our agreement. Will you forgive this asshole of a man and still marry him?"
Alison's eyes produced a new batch of tears. "I was so stupid."
Hayden chuckled and pulled her to his chest once more. He shifted on the floor so his back is on the side of the bed with Alison still on his lap.
"You are stupidly in love with me." Hayden urged her to look at him. "You really love me that much that you're willing to be my mistress, huh." He says wiping her tears.
"Don't tease me."
"Sorry, baby. You're just so cute when you cry. But I don't want you to cry especially because of me. I'm sorry."
