Alison shook her head. That kiss was the start of everything, the very reason why she got her heart broken into million pieces. The same reason why her heart feels like exploding after seeing him again a while ago.
She stood up and threw her coffee cup into the bin as she remembered her promise to herself.
"Never again." She mumbled to herself as she tried to nurse her heart back to its normal rate.
Back at the ER, patients keep coming at a slow pace so she had time to eat properly and to review charts.
"Dr. Greene," A nurse called her. "Bed 4 is awake."
Alison smiled at her then stood up. She sanitized her hands then walked towards the bed.
She saw Adam sitting. Hayden is nowhere in sight, thank heavens.
"How do you feel?" She asked him, as she checked his IV roller clamp while glancing at her wristwatch.
"Wait, I know you. Where did I see you?" He asked.
Alison looked at him, her lips twitching. It looks like she can't get away from her past unscathed.
"Whatever you're thinking, you are wrong. Now, answer my question."
Adam laughed. "Right. I'm okay, I guess. Just a little lightheaded."
"Fair enough. I suggest you finish the fluid infusion then you are free to go home and you'll feel later. I'll prescribe something for the pain and some antibiotics. Then come back for the suture removal after 7 days." She smiled at him. "The nurse will teach you how to dress your wound properly so you can do it at home."
Adam just nodded. "Thank you, Alison."
Alison looked at him. "Yes, I remember you now. Hayden has been looking for you for a while now." Adam said as if answering the question she had in her mind.
"Well, I hope you take extra precaution around knives from now on." Alison purposely ignored his last sentence and called a nurse to help him.
Work. She drowned herself to work that day. A few hours later, she saw Adam with Hayden leaving the ER.
HAYDEN PULLED back the curtain that hides Adam just in time for a nurse leaving with his empty infusion set.
"Where have you been?" Adam asked Hayden as he examined his dressed wound. "I saw Alison. She's here! All this time, she was here and she's a doctor! Man, she looks good. Better than the last time I saw her at Breakfree."
"I know, idiot. While you are scared for your life because of your stupidity, she was here stitching your skin." He said throwing him a paper bag full of prescribed medicine.
Adam let out a laugh. "So, you have finally met her because of me. You owe me then."
"Get up, stupid. You have a business to run."
"What? Can I get a vacation? I'm injured! I can't even lift a spoon because of this." Adam showed him his injured arm.
"And whose fault was it? From now on, you are banned to touch my knives."
Adam just grinned at him and get up. Bringing all their things, they started to head out for the exit.
Hayden's eyes wandered to look for her. And he did find her. Alison's curls burned atop her head, she was easily spotted in a crowd of blondes and brunettes. He looked at her as she fumbled with her pen.
But she didn't glance his way.
"Come on, dude." Urged Adam.
'I'll get you back, Alison.' He promised.
