This is for the best. Alison kept reminding herself, totally forgetting her mission for today: buy coffee before heading to the airport.

She shook her head to keep her thoughts away. This is not the time to daydream. This was bound to happen anyway. It was just a matter of time. And that time happens to be now.

She sighed as she opened the door to the coffee shop she grew to love.

The smell of brewed coffee and the faint sound of music greeted her.

She immediately went to the counter where she ordered her favorite of the day.

"Alison?"

She turned to look at the girl, a wide grin on her face as Alison's eyebrows furrowed.

"Oh my God! It is you, Alison! I'm a huge fan!" The girl shrieked happily, almost jumping up and down.

"Oh. Thanks, I guess?" She laughed awkwardly. She'll never get used to this feeling even after performing for years.

"Alison." It was just a whisper but it was loud and clear to her ears.

She turned her eyes to the boy whom she loved wholeheartedly.

She didn't spot him earlier. Because if she did, she'll be out of this place in a second.

"Hey." She nodded in acknowledgment, mentally patting herself for sounding so casual and composed despite the chaos of the familiar butterflies in her stomach, fluttering like crazy making it seem like they are finally at home.

'Home my ass.'

The girl turned to Hayden. "You knew her? I can't believe you didn't tell me this! We've seen her perform multiple times and you're telling me this now? Are you really my boyfriend?" She playfully sighed but her eyes were sparkling in delight.

Alison almost rolled her eyes but held back. The bitch inside her is not needed at the moment.

"She's my--" Hayden Morgan started to explain but Alison was quick enough to stop him from talking further.

"Actually, we didn't know each other that much. It's his father whom I'm connected with." She smiled, slightly tapping her fingers on the cup she was holding.

She can see how Hayden creased her eyebrows.

Why not? In their two-month relationship, Hayden never bothered asking things about her. Their relationship was mainly centered on him, for his happiness and satisfaction. He doesn't even know that Alison has a close relationship with his father. What a shame.

'What? You'll tell her that I am your fucking substitute while she's away? No way in hell will I let that happen!' She thought.

"Really? Luke really is something, huh. Finding his way to young women." The girl giggled.

"Oh no. It's not what you think. He's been the closest father figure that I have and I respect him so much so please, don't think of him that way." She tried to smile because a scowl wanted to escape her face.

"Oh, where are my manners? I'm Nicole, by the way. And this is my boyfriend who forgot to tell me he's friends with an amazing singer like you."

'I know, because of your fucking name, he used me to forget you. Guess what? It didn't work.' Alison mentally rolled her eyes.

"I'm Alison." She smiled, half-heartedly, thinking about things that they did before, knowing that she won't have the chance to make him happy. Not now. Not ever.

"Oh, I'd like to stay but I have to go, now." She gripped the handle of her luggage and quickly gave them a small wave as she exits the coffee shop.

Without a second glance, she walked quickly, and when she was sure that she was out of sight, she stopped.

"Damn. That wasn't fun at all." She mumbled as she nursed her shattered heart upon recalling how perfect they were for each other. How Nicole touches his arm and how they hold hands in front of her.

It should be her. It should be her place. If it wasn't for that Nicole, she wouldn't feel like punching the hell out of herself and felt like dying.

But it was for the best.

Alison already knew that she can never replace Nicole in his heart. She knew that no matter what she does to make him happy, Nicole is the only girl who can make him truly happy.

And now that she saw her up close, a realization hit her like lightning why Hayden was like that during the two-month relationship they had.

He tried to turn her into someone she wasn't. He wanted her to be Nicole. To act like her, dress like her, talk like her, and just be her.

She was just so blind to see it.

And in the last week of their relationship, she knew the end is near. Not because she's about to leave the country for a while, but because she saw Hayden and Nicole in a restaurant, happily sucking faces, rekindling their love to each other. It was a very entertaining sight. Alison waited for the turning point because she was hoping that Hayden might push her away or scream at her for kissing him and tell her to fuck off. After all, he's got a girlfriend at home. She doesn't want to be like in the movies where the girl walks out, missing the important part where the guy pushes the girl away telling her that he loves his girl at home.

But unlike in the movies, Alison waited patiently for the turning point and it came. Only that, it broke her heart even more for Hayden looked so happy with her in his arms. Like they are the only people in the world. He was so happy, she almost thought he was crying because of too much happiness. He hugged her for the longest time and kissed her again, probably whispering sweet nothings against her lips.

And it fucking hurts like hell. That scene was the last straw to break her into million pieces.

So she didn't waste any more time and went back to his place. She packed her few things in a drawer he let her use due to the constant sleepover. But now, she has to give the drawer back. She wasn't needed there anymore.

That moment, she decided to give him what he actually needed, for the last couple of days - a break-up.

So imagine her surprise to see the man she thought she wouldn't see for a while.

"Fuck. I swear this would be the last time I'll cry because of you, Hayden." She muttered as she wiped the stray tears on her cheek.

She may leave with a broken heart and probably return with the same, she knew this is for the best.

It always has.
