Falling asleep with her was the only thing that seemed to shut my eyes for a whole night

Falling asleep with her was the only thing that seemed to shut my eyes for a whole night. The sound of her soft snoring and her arm thrown over my face was unexpectedly just the thing I needed to be at peace.

So when I stare at my pitch black room, waiting for the time my eyes would shut on their own I knew I was screwed. She was my antidote and I desperately needed her. I needed Anastasia White and I'd be fucked without her.

I groan and toss and turn in my sheets until I find it useless and get up from my bed. I throw on some shorts and walk out to the kitchen where a stray light meets me at the island. I stare at my phone that I had unconsciously brought out with me. I dial a number and listen to it ring.

"Son? Cos'è?"
[Translation: Son? What is it?]

I listen to the rhythm of her voice inside my head. I haven't called her in a few months. I'm an idiot, I know. I'm selfish, I'm aware.

"Mason Reese Moretti!" I winced as my full name came out of her mouth.

"Sorry, mamma. I just couldn't sleep." God what do I even say to her.

She sighed. A chair scraped against the floor before she spoke again. "Son, I told you about needing a therapist. Your sleep won't get better until you talk about what's keeping you up. You need medication or something amore mio."

"Ma, I didn't call for a lecture. I would have called my sister or Ana—" I clenched my jaw shut from saying anything else worth my mamma's curiosity.

"O chi?"
[Translation: Or who?]

"Nessuna, mamma." I spit out in a more aggressive tone.
[Translation: No one, mamma]

"Young boy! If you've met a lady you must tell me. Oh son, it's been so long! I thought I saw that you were dating that girl Keria, I'm glad it's nothing but false."

"It's not false." Not that I had much of a choice in the matter. "I am dating her." I knew it didn't sound convincing but truthfully I had no intention of it sounding real and heart felt.

I do not love. I can not love her.

"Boy, you cause me trouble. I better see you visiting me Mason, my son I love you. I want what's best for you and Keria..."I could hear the strain in her voice. "She will be everything like her sister. You know she's exactly like her sister. You've seen it. Son—"

I let out a throaty groan as I limped on the counter top. Lectures after lectures. I want nothing more than for her to just drop it about me having to find someone to love again.

"I'm serious, Mason!"

I cut her off, tired of her insufferable lecturing. "I'll visit soon. Wesley will come with so he can visit with his family too in Italy. Assuming you've gone back by now?" Please just turn our conversation around.
