"Moth- What?" The impact of what the woman, who was currently holding me, had said slammed into me with brutal force, my body folding into itself. "What- What did you say?" I squirmed away from her, my knees and elbows raw from the ground.

"Y/n..." Ava wore a sickeningly warm smile, holding her arms out to me as she rose up from her feet. "I am your mother. Oh Sweetheart, how I've missed you..."

"No." The air from my lungs flew out, leaving me behind to choke on denial. "No. No." She wasn't backing down, enveloping in a suffocating hug.
"No. No!" I shoved the monster of a woman away from me, tearing us apart. There was nothing I wanted more than to evade her touch, all the filth that crawled on her skin. She was evil. She was crazy. She was selfish. "This isn't possible!"

"Not possible?" An air of laughter bubbled out of her mouth. "Not possible?! Look at her! Look at what you've done!" She sharply gestured to bedraggled Teresa wobbling her way to her feet.
"You almost put a bullet in your best friend's skull for your own selfish reasons." The girl touched several places I had hit, wiping away blood from the cuts that had been doing when I dragged her through the dirt. "A bit much if I say so myself but nevertheless, you are your mother's daughter."

"No, I didn't- I wouldn't- I can't- You're lying!"

"I'm not."

"You're fucking psycho, you can't be my mother!" I yelled, fists curling. My skin burned with scalding heat.

"And you're not?"

My palms flattened, the tension in my body being replaced by a rotting sick feeling. She wasn't lying. I could tell. I was just like her, wasn't I? I could feel the answer inside me.

"Why? Why?! Why would you do all of this?!" Sweeping around, I called attention to the hellish mayhem she had caused.

"It's a means to an end, Darling." She backed away from me, giving me my space. Her eyes glimmered with mischief, the same expression I always wore in the glade. "No matter what you think about your mother...I am not a monster. I'm a Doctor. I swore an oath to find a cure!" Ava looked around for our comprehension, finding none. "I just need more time."

"More blood." A voice spoke up, marked with disdain. Mary emerged from the crowd, ready to face her.

"Hello, Mary." Ava uttered dryly, her lip curling. "I hoped we'd meet again. I'm sorry it had to be under these circumstances."

"I'm sorry about a lot of things too. But not this." Mary remarked, the stray fires glowing her face. "At least my conscience is clear. At least I never sent my teenage daughter into the maze. You horrible wretched woman."

"I made an executive decision on what would be best for her and the maze was, not that it's any of your business!"

"It is as her Godmother!"

"Godmother?" My jaw dropped, mind scrambling to register the truth. "What do you mean Godmother?"

Mary sighed, walking towards me. Her face was true, sincere, unlike my mother's. Why couldn't she be my mother instead?

"I wanted to tell you earlier y/n. Your mother and I have known each other for a very long time-"

BOOM

A crack was sent belting through the air. The sound of a gunshot. It happened so fast it didn't faze me until after it happened. Blood pooled at the base of Mary's shirt, soaking the cloth. She'd been shot the same place I had.

"Mary?" I whispered, voice warbling. "Mary?!" My eyes didn't leave her as she collapsed to the ground, they couldn't move.

"Mary? Mary? Mary! Mary! Mary!" Vince rushed forward, scooping her up in his arms. Just like how Chuck had done to me. "Mary? Mary? Mary? Mary?" He tried in vain to get her to open her eyes. Dreadful memories flashed in my brain. "No!" As Vince turned her over on her stomach, I felt myself die again along with her. "No! Mary! No!"
