“You really think so? I mean, thank you,” Piper blushed when Alex complimented something of hers again. I’ve been standing here for almost ten minutes listening to their flirting and it was driving me insane. I felt like a third wheel.
“You know what? I am going for a walk.” I announced when I couldn’t take it anymore. But who was I kidding? They didn’t notice me.
“Unbelievable.” I mumbled and left them in their little world. I warned Alex, but who was I to say anything when Piper was obviously interested as well. They were two grownups who could do whatever they please.
“Umm excuse me,” someone said after tapping my shoulder. I looked and was met by the guy who harassed me the day I came home.
“Yes?” I asked, narrowing my eyes. What did he want? Harass me again?
“Hey. I’m not sure you remember me, but...” He said, but I interrupted him.
“Oh, I remember you.” I glared a bit, but didn’t want to be too rude.
“Right. Umm... look, I wanted to apologize for how I acted before. I didn’t know you were Alex’s sister or Tyler’s girl. If I had known, I would never do that.” He said, but it didn’t make anything better. And Tyler’s girl? I was not his. Or was I? I was not sure, but didn’t correct the guy.
“And if I wasn’t? You’d done what?” I challenged him. It must have caught him off guard, as he just gaped at me. “You know what I think? I think you are just a little boy in a man’s body who is trying to impress his friends. When you know how to treat a woman or a girl no matter who they are related to or with, then come and apologize again. Now, if you’d excuse me, I would like something to eat.” I know I was rude to the guy, but he just made me so mad. Without waiting for any reaction, I walked away.
Not too far as I bumped into someone. That person sneaked his large hands around my body to steady me.
“I’m so sorry,” I apologized and just then realized who the said person was.
“I don’t mind. You can run into me any day,” Tyler smirked.
“Won’t happen. Usually I pay more attention to where I am going,” I huffed, but didn’t make any move to get away from him.
“Hmm, too bad. I like you like this.” He said, bringing his face to my neck and inhaling. That sent shivers down my spine.
“Come on Tyler, not here. There are too many people and it feels like everyone is staring.” I said, though that was not the only reason I wanted for him to stop. He just made me feel things that I was afraid to have.
“Let them. So everyone knows who has captured my heart,” he whispered. Tyler had changed. He used to be demanding and scary, but now he gave all these sweet talks and almost romantic gestures.
“Yo, Animus! Come here a little. Let the girl out of your clutches for a second?” Both of us looked to where Tyler was called at. It was Bullet with three other guys I didn’t know and Grim. Everyone was smiling like something was funny.
“Go, I’ll be somewhere around.” I chuckled and pushed him away from me.
“I don’t want to go to those pussies. I don’t want to let you go.” He complained.
“It’s not like this is the last time you’ll hug me. Just go, before they do something embarrassing.” I assured him.
“Fine. But I promise I won’t be long, so don’t disappear anywhere. I want to steal you from this party and take you somewhere, alright?” He looked at me and smiled when I said a small “Yes.” Then he gave me a quick kiss and left.
I started to feel nervous and needed to get out of here for a moment. I quickly maneuvered through the crowd and finally managed to get out of the basement and away from anyone.
I stopped near the kitchen. At the moment, there was no one. My breathing quickened. What was happening to me? Was it because of the party? Or because of Tyler? Deep down, I knew it was the latter.
He made my heart skip a beat and my mind get all fuzzy. Not to mention the biggest secret I was keeping from him. It ate me from an inside, but I was so scared to tell him. I was such a coward.
“Amabel? Aren’t you supposed to be at the party?” A familiar voice came from behind me, making my body stiffen. I tried to clean the tear I didn’t know escaped my eyes, so he wouldn’t notice. When I turned around to greet him, my efforts were in vain. He knew.
“Oh, Amy, what happened?” Dr. Travis asked, coming closer to me.
“What are you doing here?” I asked instead of answering his question.
“Your dad invited me, and I just couldn’t say no. Now, please, tell me why are you crying?” He looked at me with a concern in his eyes.
“I’m scared.” I finally admitted as he brought me in a hug, though he was hesitant, as if asking if that was alright. I hugged him back, because I felt that I needed a comfort.
“Is this has to do anything with the baby?” He asked, and I nodded.
“And the father of your child?” I nodded again at his question. It was like he could read me like an open book.
“Please, stop me, if you think I am stepping over any boundaries, but is Animus the father?” He was hesitant to ask, but somehow I wanted to answer him truthfully. Maybe I needed this.
“Yes, he is.” I confirmed.
“I thought so. The way he threatened me and the whole hospital to not let anything happen to you. I knew he had feelings for you,” Travis chuckled before he became serious again. “Come on, let’s sit down,” he said and motioned to the small couch not too far from us.
We sat down and I stared at my hands in my lap.
“Does he know about the baby?” He asked yet another question.
“No. That’s what I am scared of. What if he doesn’t want it? I mean, he says these sweet things to me, that makes me believe he actually wants to be with me. But then again, he says he doesn’t want anything to change. He wants just me. He doesn’t look like someone who would settle down and want to have a family, either.” I put my heart out. I really needed to talk to someone who was not emotionally involved with this situation. Someone with a clear head.
“What if he does? I know this situation you are in must be quite frightening, but I have learned that everything happens for a reason. I think you have to talk to him. It will be a shock to him at first, but the sooner you tell him, the longer he’ll have to get used to the idea of being a father. You’d be surprised how many young men think they don’t want a family, but when they have it, they realize that it’s the best thing that had ever happened to them. So, my advice to you is to talk to Animus. Tell him how you feel. Tell him you are scared and that you need him. He might pleasantly surprise you.” During his speech, Travis took my hands in his, making me look into his eyes.
“I am terrified to tell him anything, but the again I know you are right. He deserves to know, and it’s better he finds this from me and not someone else. It would break his heart, and I don’t think he would ever forgive me if I kept this from him any longer. It's just that I am so ficking nervous.” I said, though it was more to convince me, that it was the right decision.
“I’m glad you think so. If Animus really cares for you, he’ll accept this.” Travis smiled reassuringly and leaned down to kiss my cheek in a caring manner. It took me a little off guard. I did not expect him to do that. What I have gathered aboit him, was that he was very friendly and caring.
What shocked me even more was that in the next moment he was ripped off me and lying on the ground with furious Tyler atop of him.
“How dare you take my woman away from me?” He screamed. Every word was accompanied by a punch in Travis’s face.
“Stop!” Coming out of my shock, I screamed, but it fell to deaf ears. Tyler was gone and in his place was the monster everyone in this town feared.
