Alex knocked on the dark wooden door. After a moment, a coarse voice invited us to come in. Alex opened door, and we stepped inside.

“Look what a cat dragged in,” Alex said, and stepped aside to reveal me. Both dad and uncle Grim looked at me.

“Honey, what are you doing here? I thought you were going to stay at home and rest,” dad smiled at me while uncle Grim kept looking at me.

“Are you going to keep staring at me or are you going to come and hug me?” I smirked at him. He shook his head as if coming out of daze and rushed towards me.

“My little devil’s princess. I can’t believe you are here. And look at you. You have grown into a beautiful woman.” He put his hands around me and pulled me off the floor.

“Let. Go. Crushing. Me” I choked out. As he put me down, I laughed.

“Sorry about that, but I missed you. I haven’t seen or heard from you in 5 years. That reminds me. Why didn’t you call or visited me? You are in so much trouble, young lady.” He crossed his hands on his chest, making his huge muscles pop out even more.

“Damn, what have you been doing, living in the freaking gym?” I asked, poking his biceps.

“Don’t change the subject, Amabel,” he warned me. He looked angry. Yeaks! Angry Grim was never a good thing.

“I’m sorry. It’s just that there were a lot of things going on and I just... um... I’m sorry, uncle. But I brought an apology gift,” I gave him the box with eclairs and smiled archly. He took the box from my hand and opened it.

“Nothing can make me to forgive...” he opened the lid and grinned. “Alright, you are forgiven.” He took one eclair in his mouth and moaned. Everyone laughed.

“The toughest and most feared gang member, and he goes soft over a piece of muffin that some chick brought him. Seriously, Grim,” someone laughed humorlessly. I looked at the guy in the corner of the room. He was sitting on one armchair with his knees wide and one arm resting on his knee while other was place on the armchair, his hand holding his chin. He must be the most scary looking guy I have ever seen. His neck and hands with fingers were covered in tattoos. Probably the rest of his arms as well, but I couldn’t see as he was wearing a black long sleeve shirt. His black jeans hugging his legs, but not too much. He had typical hairstyle with short sides and long top, but damn it looked good on him.

“Shut up Animus. Those were eclairs, and this little chick, as you referred to her, is Dominic’s daughter and Alex’s twin sister. She is a family, so watch your mouth before it loses some teeth,” Grim explained, not really paying attention to the guy. He was too busy eating his eclairs. I chuckled and shook my head.

So that was infamous Animus. He really looked exactly like Alex described him. He was someone who I was going to stay away from. If I could handle the guy downstairs, I was afraid that Animus was someone I didn’t want to mess with.

“And because she is my baby sister, stay away from her. I don’t want your nasty hands anywhere near her,” Alex warned. He looked serious.

“Like I would want to go near her. She’s not my type.” Animus looked me up and down. I just raised my eyebrows. I didn’t know if I should feel hurt or relieved.

“I know. Women you like are easy and without a dignity, while guys have to go through hell and me to get to Amabel,” Alex smirked and winked at me.

“Oh my God. Can you stop talking like I am not here? Better yet, don’t talk about me at all. Besides Alex, you don’t have to worry, that guy has below zero chance with me.” I pointed at Animus, who raised an eyebrow.

“Alright. Alex, Animus. Get out of here. You have a job to do,” dad said and came to me. He took my coat that I finally took off and put it down on the chair.

“See you home.” Alex kissed my cheek and left.

Animus just passed me, looking straight into my eyes. There was a shadow of a smirk on his face. I gulped. At that moment, he looked like the definition of evil. After he closed the door, I let out a breath.

“Don’t mind him Amy. He won’t come near you.” My dad smiled at me.

“I know. And if he does, I’ll just kick his ass like you taught me.” I smirked.

“That’s our devil’s princess. I missed you, kiddo. Wait till Martha finds out about you being back,” Grim laughed, hugging me again.

As he mentioned Martha, I froze. It might be easy with Grim, but Martha was a different story. You couldn’t bribe her with eclairs. She was going to whip my ass for sure. Uncle grim might be a scary man, but his wife was 10 times worse.

“Don’t worry about Martha. I am sure she will be too happy to see you to give you a lecture,” dad laughed seeing my unsure face.

Well, there was only one way to find out...

Meeting with Martha went just as I planned. She flipped out when she saw me. At first she hugged me and kissed my cheek million times. After her happiness calmed down, she lectured me about not leaving your family behind. That I was like a daughter to her and I broke her heart. Blah blah blah. For an hour I apologized until finally she forgave me.

After that I spent the whole evening with dad, aunt Martha, uncle Grim and their daughter Stacy. She was 14 years old. She talked little. Teenagers. She had better things to do, like talking with her girlfriends about boys and stuff. Actually, I did not know what girls her age did nowadays. When I was 15, I did thought about boys but I also still played with dolls and I definitely didn’t dress up and look like a 20-year-old. It’s so weird how time’s changed. Even though I talked little with Stacy, and she talked only to me, I gave her my number just in case she needed a grown up, but she didn’t want it to be her parents.

When I finally got home, I went to bed straight away.

I thought about everything that happened today and realized that I really missed home.

“Yeah, I am going to stay here.” I smiled and fell asleep.

Who knew, maybe my life was going to be finally normal.
