As I got in the car, my body was embraced with a warmth. My fingers and toes were freezing, which made them sting. Just like my cheeks were burning up, but my body shaking.
I looked around the nice leather interior of Tyler’s typical black bad boy’s muscle car. But I had to admit that it suited him.
After a few moments, he got in the driver’s seat and handed me my purse.
“What about my car?” I didn’t dare to look at him, so I just fidgeted with my fingers in my lap.
“I’ll call someone to pick it up,” he spoke calmly, but I knew that it was far from what he was.
“Where are you going to take me?” I asked, but was scared to hear the answer.
“Home. I want to take you to my place, but I don’t trust you around me there right now. Your dad won’t be there, but Alex is home, so you will be safe.” It surprised me.
I couldn’t help myself to wonder what would happen if he took me to his place.
“How did you find me?” Finally, I looked at him. Tyler had leaned his head against the seat and his eyes were closed. He clenched and unclenched his jaw.
“I looked for you everywhere, but when I couldn’t find you, I went back to the headquarters. There I was given a new task and on my way there I saw your car and you standing in front of it. And now here we are.” He took a deep breath and exhaled. Then his eyes met mine.
“I won’t let that bastard lay another finger on you. I promise you that.” I stared at him in astonishment. After what I did to him back in his place, though he deserved it, Tyler said something like that.
I didn’t say another word, and neither did Tyler.
He started his car and Johnny Cash’s voice came through singing “God’s gonna cut you down”. Somehow it calmed down my nerves a bit. I relaxed in the comfortable seat and turned my head to the side. I watched as trees passed by in a snowstorm that had now reached us. It was beautiful. My favorite weather conditions.
Finally, we pulled up at my place.
“Thank’s for bringing me home,” I said quickly as we stopped and got out of the car.
For my utter disappointment, Tyler got out as well.
“What are you doing?” I turned to look at him and asked.
“I am just walking my date to the door.” He smirked, winking at me.
“Date? What are you talking about?” I was confused. What on earth was he planning?
“Well, I did tell your brother that I am going to take you on a date.” I looked at him as if he had grown two heads.
“But we never went on a date and this definitely was not one. Plus, I never agreed to go out with you in the first place.” I narrowed my eyes at him. I was far too exhausted at the moment and just wanted to go to bed and not argue with this criminal.
“But you will. Eventually. I’m just merely skipping a few steps of the whole going on the date thing.” His eyes held amusement and other emotions that were unclear to me. He had now stepped close enough for our chest to touch.
The closeness made me feel too uneasy, so I stepped back but tripped on the porch steps behind me. Fortunately, or rather unfortunately for me, Tyler coughed me in his arms.
“Whoa there, careful kitten.” He looked into my eyes while I looked everywhere but at him.
“Thanks,” I said and was ready to stand straight, because I didn’t like the position we were in. Him holding me bent backwards around my waist.
