I woke up the next morning in a fantastic mood. I went to the bathroom and after finishing there, I went to the kitchen for some breakfast.
The house was quiet. As it was 11 am, my dad and brother were out.
I made myself a sandwich and a tea. I was too lazy to make anything else.
After eating, I went back to my room and put on blue jeans and a red flannel shirt.
While dressing, I was wondering what to do. Staying home or going somewhere. If I stayed home, I would get bored quickly. If I went outside, I wouldn’t really know what to do. But I guess that was a better option. So I grabbed some cash from my bag, my phone and went to the hallway to put on my black winter biker style boots, a scarf, black parka with fur inside, and, of course, my lovely black knitted beanie and mitts.
As I opened the front door, a cold wind hit me immediately in the face. Everything was white, and it was still snowing. I smiled because I was in love with winter.
I walked down the road into the town. My dad’s house was located a little outside of the town, but it was relatively easy to walk to the center. I just needed to get through the forest and Voila! I was there. Usually it took around 40 minutes, but because of the weather I got in the town after an hour. Not that I minded. I enjoyed the walk. And I was not the only one. Quite many people passed me, just as some were walking in front of me. Some were walking alone like me, somewhere walking with their other half, some even were pulling their kids who were sitting on sleds.
I visited local shops, buying some stuff here and there. I also went to the local high school where I used to go.
It had been renovated. It used to be an old red brick building, but now it was looking modern, with wide windows and light wooden exterior. Most of the large oak trees had been removed as well, that used to be in front of the school. Now there was a huge parking lot and a small place with a couple of tables and benches.
I remembered how we used to hang out under those huge trees in the shadows, protected from the sun. I didn’t have many friends, but those who I had were great. Unfortunately, after finishing school, we went our separate ways and grew apart. We still talk from time to time, but not as often as I would like. Everyone has their own lives now. Some of them are still studying and working, some are raising kids. One is traveling the world. It seemed like their lives were all sorted out while I was a looser, with no education, no job and fucked up relationship history, not to mention moving back in with my dad. Yeah, not depressing at all.
I sighed and decided to visit my dad at the club house. I knew that he and uncle Grim would be there and I knew how much they both loved eclairs. And I knew the perfect place to get them.
I entered the small bakery. Inside, it smelled like freshly baked bread. My mouth watered.
“Hello. How can I help you? ” I women in her 40s asked politely. I smiled at her.
“Yes, I would like 2 chocolate, 2 vanilla, 2 raspberry and 2 pistachio eclairs. And is that ciabatta bread fresh?”
“Yes, it’s still warm.” She smiled.
“Then one of that as well,” I ordered. As the women placed eclairs in the carton box, I looked at my phone. It was already 3.45 pm. Wow, time passed really quickly.
“There you go. ” She placed the box and a paper bag with my ciabatta on the counter. I gave her money, and she gave me back the change.
“Thank you. Have a good day,” I said and went out.
It took me another 30 minutes to get to the club house. On my way, I ate the whole ciabatta bread. And now I wanted to have a glass of water badly.
As I approached the club house, a couple of guys were standing outside smoking. All of them looked at me as if I was lost, but said nothing. I didn’t recognize either of them so I just went inside. There I was greeted with a masculine aroma mixed with something else. It reminded of all the times I’d been here.
“Hey there, pretty lady. You lost?” Someone asked me. I turned to see a guy with black hair and in his early 20s. He was sitting on the couch with 4 other guys that looked around the same age as him. Not older than 23, I would guess. All of them were looking at me.
“No, I’m exactly where I wanted to be,” I said and turned around to go to the main office, where I believed I could find either my dad or uncle Grim. But the guy got up from his seat and rushed to stand in front of me.
“And what exactly are you doing here? Looking for a good time? You know I could help you with that,” he smirked. He was a pretty good-looking guy, but I was not interested.
“I doubt that, but thanks for the offer. Now if you’d excuse me, I have to find someone. ” I tried to step passed him but he moved in front of me once again. I got agitated with this guy.
“Is there something wrong with your brain? I thought I told you I have to go and that I am not interested in what you offer. So get out of my way.” I narrowed my eyes at him. He just stepped closer to me. I was not scared of him, so I stayed in place. We were now face to face.
“Have you any idea who you are talking to? I am dangerous, princess, and if I were you, I would be nicer to me.” He put a hand on my cheek and, with his thumb he caressed my lower lip.
I slapped his hand away.
“And if I were you, I would suggest to back off before you get a fucking bullet between your eyes,” I threatened as well. This little punk had nothing on me.
At first, he looked taken aback by my response, but he quickly recovered and laughed.
“And who would put that bullet there, you?” He mocked me, but I just smirked.
“She could, but I would love to do that myself,” Alex said behind the guy. He jumped and turned around fast.
“Alex. ” The guy looked scared. Wow, who knew my obnoxious brother could scare someone like that. I guessed to other he was scary while to me he was just my stupid twin brother.
“Step away from her and I might not break every bone in your pathetic body,” Alex said, his face showing no emotions. He looked actually scary like that. Huh, who knew?
“Is she yours or something? ” The guy asked but stepped aside slowly.
“Or something. ” With that, Alex took my hand and dragged me up the stairs where I was going to go before I was rudely interrupted.
“What the hell are you doing here? That fucker could have hurt you, Amabel,” he hissed as we walked through a hallway.
“Please, that dick couldn’t do anything. I would knock him out faster than he could raise his hand,” I mumbled.
“Like he did when he touched you?” Alex stopped suddenly.
“I had everything under control. ” I couldn’t understand what his problem was. I was completely safe.
“You are not a kid anymore. You are now a desirable woman and these guys don’t give a fuck weather you want to be touched or not. Times have changed. Things aren’t as they used to be. So don’t you ever come here unannounced. Or better yet, don’t come at all.” Wow, Alex really was angry. Well, sucks for him.
“And I can take care of myself. So stop acting like an overprotective brother and tell me if dad and uncle Grim are here.” I pulled my arm away from his grip.
“They are in Grim’s office. Come on, Grim is going to freak. Dad hasn’t told him about you yet,” Alex sighed. I smiled. Perfect. I really wanted to surprise him.
Alex knocked on the dark wooden door. After a moment coarse voice invited us to come in. Alex opened door, and we stepped inside.
“Look what the cat dragged in,” Alex said, and stepped aside to reveal me.
