“While you undress, I’ll heat water for tea. I’ll be in the kitchen over there.” Piper pointed at the door on her right.
I nodded and pulled off my hat and gloves. Her place was so warm.
After undressing, I followed where she went and found her in the kitchen, putting tea bags in two cups.
“So, how have you been?” I sat down at the table and waited for her answer.
“Me? Oh I’ve been fine. You know, same old same old. What I’d like to know is what happened to you?” She turned around to face me. There was no amusement in her face, only worry.
“You know about my family, right? What they do?” I asked her. I decided to explain as much as possible, by telling as little as possible.
Piper nodded. “I’ve heard rumors.”
“They are kind of true, but please don’t go around telling that. I grew up around the gang and I love all of them. But there is this one new member. He goes by name Animus.” As I mentioned Tyler’s nickname, her eyes grew big.
“I heard about him. He is bad news. Apparently, they used him to get rid of unwanted people and if they need to get any information, they sent him.
He is heartless and merciless.” She shuddered at the thought of him.
Now I was reconsidering telling her of what happened.
“Did he do this to you?” Suddenly, her face paled.
I ignored her question and decided to continue my story.
“Um, I don’t really know how merciless he really is, but I do know that he is incredibly handsome, cocky bastard. First time I met him he said that I was not his type, but some things happened and now he kind of thinks of me as his. One thing led to another, and he got into a fight with my brother because of that. I didn’t want for them to kill one another so stupid old me jumped in the middle and got a nice black eye.
Now I am held captive in my own home because everyone fears that I’ll pass out somewhere or whatever. And if that wasn’t enough, I have a freaking bodyguard named Groot. He is so boring.
I just couldn’t take being in my home, so I sneaked out and here I am.” I smiled and motioned around.
“Wow. Your life is like a soap opera.” Piper chuckled and handed me my tea.
“Thanks,” I said as I took the hot cup in my hands.
“So let me get this straight. The most feared guy in town wants you. Your brother doesn’t like that, so now you have a bodyguard?” Piper sat in front of me, drinking her own tea.
“No. Animus was the one who put a bodyguard on me. He thinks that because he is interested in me, I might be in danger, and my idiot of a brother agrees.”
“Alright. So who gave you that? Animus or your brother?” Piper pointed at my eye.
“Black eye is from Animus. Sore ribs are from Alex. Neither of them expected me to jump in the middle and were so into beating one another that they didn’t notice me until I was lying on the ground, passing out.
Dad said that I was lucky they didn’t plan to kill each other as they both are kind of friends, because if they did, they’d put much more strength in the fight and I’d be dead by now. Can you believe it?” I puffed and finished my tea.
“What are you going to do now?” I haven’t really thought about that.
“I don’t know. When I planned on sneaking out, this was the part where my plan ended.” I admitted, a little embarrassed about my lack of plotting.
“You could stay here for the night. Emma will be home soon and she won’t mind. Plus, we could all use a girls’ night in. I’ll tell her to grab a bottle of good old pal Jack and then we’ll order pizza. It will be fun. What do you say?” Piper suddenly jumped up from her seat.
“I’m going to call her right now. Damn, this is going to be so much fun! Eee!” She squeaked and ran out of the kitchen.
I chuckled and shook my head at her silliness. Though Piper was right. I could use a girl’s night and 3 heads are smarter than one. I was sure we’d come up with some plan regarding my situation.
A few hours had passed.
“To the guys and their inability to know what to do when it comes to dealing with women!” Emma yelled, raising a bottle of Jack Daniels to her lips. Taking a shot and then drank a coke to get rid of the terrible taste of alcohol.
Funny how we hated the taste, yet drank it anyway.
“Cheers!” Piper was next, and after her, I repeated what they did. With every shot I took, I begged not to vomit. Yet as soon as I popped a snack into my mouth, I forgot all about the terrible taste.
We were sitting on the living room floor around a bunch of salty snacks and alcohol.
It wasn’t that late. Around 9 pm, but we already were quite drunk. After all, we started to drink 3 hours ago after Emma got home from work.
When we told her what happened, she was all in for it.
It was great to talk to them and just have fun. They told me what happened to the firefighters that they left with last time we were at the bar.
Apparently, Piper had great sex, but that was it. There was no spark between them while Emma was still seeing Steve. They weren’t a thing yet, but they had gone on a couple of dates and talked to each other every day.
I was happy for her. She was a really cool girl and deserved a nice guy.
They already knew what happened between me and Jason. When I asked them how he was doing, Emma said that he was ok apart from the fact that he felt like a coward for leaving me like that.
I told Emma to tell him not to beat himself up for that. I was glad that he left, because he would have gotten hurt and that was not what I wanted. I thought he was brave to stand up for me, because most of the guys seeing gun pointed at them would run first chance they’d got.
“So, we’ve talked about everything and we need a plan to deal with your current situation.” Emma pointed at me.
Piper nodded eagerly.
“Yeah. We can’t let that beast treat you like his property. He needs to back off,” I chuckled at Piper. She was trying to look so mean, but all she managed was a little cute pout on her lips.
“Then what do you suggest? I can’t just tell him to back off. I mean, I did, and that didn’t do any good.” I popped another potato chip into my mouth.
“Maybe we should find you a boyfriend. Then he’d be forced to back off,” Emma offered.
I shook my head. “That won’t work. He said he’d kill anyone who would touch me.”
“What about finding him another girl? You know someone willing?” Piper asked. I thought about it.
“I don’t know. I’m not really that eager to throw another woman in the teeth of a lion just to get away for it myself.” I wasn’t that heartless.
“But what if she wanted? I’ve heard that he looks better than any Calvin Klein model and there are so many women out there willing to be with him, even just for one night. We could find one that looks a lot like you, and maybe he’d leave you alone.” What Piper said sounded absurd, yet somehow I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
