Three days have passed, and I haven’t seen neither Alex nor Tyler. I was ok with not seeing so called Animus. He is obnoxious, rude, evil, annoying, self-centered prick who doesn’t care about anyone.
Alex was a different story. Not seeing him made me sad and kind of lonely. We were close, after all, we’re twins. But since the accident he had been avoiding me by staying at the headquarters.
I don’t understand him. He had no rights to be mad at me. I was the victim here.
Dad told me to give him time to come around. Maybe that was a good idea.
Staying home was so boring, though. I was forbidden to go to work this week due to my head injury. I didn’t see anything that bad. My ribs were sore from where Alex had kicked me while my eye was still a little swollen, but you could see improvement. Apart from a black eye, I was fine. So here I was lying on the couch, bored out of my mind. The house was clean, launch was cooked and laundry was done. All by dad.
He treated me like I was on a verge of death. The worst part was that Animus had demanded for a security to be placed on me every time I was left alone in the house. When asked the reason behind that, he said that because he was interested in me, I could be a target of their enemies. That made no sense at all. Why would I be suddenly targeted by anyone now when Tyler was “interested” in me and not before when everyone knew my relation to the gang?
And now, thanks to my dad and basically everyone being overprotective, here I was sitting on the couch while a guy whose nickname was, and you won’t believe it, Groot, was sitting beside me. He was called fucking Groot! Like the character from Guardians of the Galaxy. And I did not imagine the first movie where he was tall and all. No. I was imagining him being this little thing, being pushed around and abused by a bunch of assholes. Though he explained to me that he was called Groot because he was very big and from Holland and that in Dutch it meant big or grate.
Still, the name reminded me of the cutest alien alive that made me pour my eyes out on multiple occasions.
“Hey, Groot?” I turned my attention from TV to the guy beside me and in response he just grunted.
“Can we go somewhere?” I looked at him pleadingly.
“No,” was all he said. Did I mention he was not the most talkative or nicest person around?
“I’m going to take a nap.” I pouted and went to my room and slammed my doors shut. I paced around for a moment until I had an idea.
All I needed to do was to sneak out. But how to do that when all my winter coats and boots were in the hallway by the front door. Maybe Groot would be so wrapped in the TV that he wouldn’t notice me.
Well, it wasn’t like I had something to lose.
I quietly opened my door and equally quietly tiptoed to the front door past the living room where my bodyguard sat with his back faced to me.
I took my coat from the hanger and picked up my timberland boots. I did everything so slowly, as if the smallest vibration would blow up them. It probably looked funny how a grown up woman tried to sneak out of her own house.
I had almost reached my door when I suddenly tripped over thin air, making my boots fall out of my hands. They landed with a thud on the floor.
I had closed my eyes dreading to be coughed, but all I heard was deep laugh coming from my living room. Groot was laughing so loudly about something that he didn’t hear my failure.
I picked up my boots as fast as possible and ran into my room. I sighed in relief as I laid the back of my head against door for a moment.
After throwing my clothes on the bed, I took off my PJs and put on my jeans, long sleeve t-shirt with my black hoodie. Then, after putting on my boots and thanking the Lord for my knitted gloves and hat that were placed in the sleeve of my coat, I put them on as well. When I was dressed, I put my wallet and phone in coat pockets and was ready for phase 2 - getting out of the house.
I quietly opened my window and climbed out of it. Fate was on my side as I lived in a 1 story house. Second phase actually was super easy if you didn’t count me slipping on ice and falling backwards. I hurt my butt and my head.
While lying on the cold ground, I groaned and waited for my head to stop spinning.
“Fuck!” I breathed out. Slowly, I rolled over and pulled myself on all fours before finally I managed to stand up.
From there on I watched where I put my legs.
I was running through the forest exhausted but happy, nonetheless. When I was sure that Groot wasn’t following me, I slowed down and continued on my way to the town.
An hour passed, and I was standing in front of my target. Which was Piper’s house and the phase three was finished. I rang the doorbell and after a few more tries, she finally opened her door.
“God, how happy I am to see you.” I hugged her as she hugged me back.
“Amy? What are you doing here? I have not seen you in like forever. You never called or texted me back. What happened to your face?” She looked at me, shocked.
“I’ll explain everything, but can we do that inside? I’m kind of freezing here.” I smiled at her cheekily.
“I’m so stupid. Of course, come in, come in.” Piper pushed me inside her house and locked her door behind us.
