I woke up somewhat during the night. It was dark outside, and the house was quiet. My head hurt from all the crying and I could feel my face was swollen. I couldn't take it. I felt disgusting, so I took a shower in the middle of the night.

Slowly, I went to the bathroom and opened the tap, waiting for the right temperature. I undressed and got in. As the water hit my skin, it burned a bit, but I welcomed the pain. It relaxed me. For a moment, I just stood there. Then washed my hair and body. After I finished and got out, I wrapped myself in a towel. When I got back to my room and dressed up in new clothes, I felt much better. I had finally calmed down from events that occurred the previous day and I didn't feel like crying anymore.

But I felt hungry, so I went to the kitchen and made myself a sandwich. I enjoyed the quiet while munching, but it was disrupted by my bodyguard.

"Hey. Saw the lights on and thought about checking up on you," he said. The guy was in his mid-30s and big, like the rest of the gang, but didn't seem as scary as some.

"I'm fine. Couldn't sleep, so took a shower and got hungry. You want some?" I offered. He didn't look at me with pity, so I assumed he either didn't know or didn't care about my situation. Either way, it was nice, so I didn't mind his company.

"Sure. What you've got?" He sat down at the table.

"I have chicken sandwiches or cereal. Then I have some beer and chips." I showed what I could offer.

"I'll take that sandwich. If your dad caught me drinking while guarding you, he'd have my head," he chuckled, making me smile.

"In that case, here you go. Wouldn't want anything to happen to you. What's your name?" I gave him my last two sandwiches, which he gladly took.

"You can call me Tooth, but my name is Sam," he said.

"Why Tooth?" I wanted to know. That was his nickname in the gang, just like most of the members. But you didn't just get these nicknames, you earned them with time.

"I always hit someone's teeth out. Besides, I used to go to college to become a dentist before some shit went wrong. Therefor the name," Sam explained.

"Well I would prefer to call you Sam, if you don't mind." I wasn't big on their nicknames. Just for some, like uncle Grim. Sometimes the name just stuck.

"Not at all. Want to do something? We could play cards or something like that," Sam offered. It wasn't a bad idea, so I agreed to play cards. I wasn't good at it, but Sam went easy on me. I enjoyed myself.

For more than an hour, we played different games when a car pulled into the driveway. After a moment, my dad, Alex and Tyler came inside.

"What are you two doing?" Dad asked, looking at both of us.

"Just playing around," I chuckled.

"Sorry boss. I just noticed that the lights were on and came to check in on Amy. Offered to keep some company," Sam explained, not sure if what he did was a good idea.

"Thank you Tooth, I appreciate it," dad said. He seemed exhausted.

"How are you feeling?" he asked me. I didn't want to think about it, but I knew he was just worried about me.

"I'm fine. Took a shower and Sam's company helped too," I smiled reassuringly.

"That's good to hear. I'm sorry I couldn't make it faster, but there was a lot to discuss. I'll go to bed if you don't mind. Besides, if you need anything, just come to me alright?" Dad kissed my forehead and hugged me.
