Concert Night

I can't believe Gene managed to score two tickets to The Stones! They've been sold out for months! On the night of the concert, I get up super early to start getting ready. I really shouldn't worry too much about trying to impress Gene but some part of me wants to. We are best friends so he's seen me at my worst. 

Around five he knocks on my door. Oh no! My hair looks awful! I can't go looking like this! 

Instead of waiting on me to open the door, he just walks in. "You're still not ready?" he asks in exasperation. "Paul, we need to go in about ten minutes."

"My hair! It looks awful!" 

Gene rolls his eyes and hands me a hat. "Just put it on. You look fine." He stands there with his arms crossed waiting for me. I know better than to argue so I sulkily follow him. "I need another hour." I pout. 

"No. That's final."

I soon forget about my hair as we find our place in line to enter. I see Gene making eyes at a few women so I turn away to keep me from getting upset. I'm not Peter, I will not make an ass out of myself in public. 

Gene senses I'm a bit upset so he leans over to whisper something in my ear. "We have front row seats.." "That's where the VIP's sit." 

"How?" I whisper back. "Did you bribe someone?"

"No, I just know people." came the smart reply. "We're going to have fun, so cheer up, sunshine." He flashes me a grin and I flip him off. I get a flick of the tongue in response. I roll my eyes as the line moves forward.

Since my "date" for the night doesn't drink, I settle for water since it's already hot. Good thing I didn't wear the hat but left it in the car. I'm soon sweating and so is everyone else. God, I wore a silk shirt and it's stained. 

Gene's grumbling that his slacks are sticking to him and his shirt is soaked. We enjoy the concert but are so glad when we can leave. The night air feels wonderful. 

Back at my parent's house, I peel off everything once I close the bathroom door to shower. I even open the window since it's so much cooler outside.

My first official date was with my best friend. I did have a good time even though I wish I could have been out with a girl instead.
