Destiny told Aubrey not to text her or call her, but he did anyway. He called and texted, and texted and called, and she never answered or responded. He started to use the article as an excuse to communicate. He sent a text message saying that she should still publish the article, it would do wonders for her career. She still hadn't responded.

She found herself distracted, at work and in school. She couldn't focus. Her heart was crushed. Fortunately for her, Thanksgiving break started soon.

She packed up the items she needed from her desk in the newsroom and slung her purse and backpack over her shoulder.

Jasmine, dressed in another one of her cute dress suits, stopped her in her tracks. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," Destiny said, tucking straightened hair behind her ear.

Jasmine narrowed her eyes at her. "Whenever a woman says she's fine, she usually isn't fine."

"I just have a lot on my mind," Destiny said, avoiding eye contact.

"Anything to do with the fine, hot chunk of man who stopped in here for you a few weeks back?" Jasmine asked, smiling knowingly.

Destiny closed her eyes and shook her head.

"You might as well tell me, Destiny. I already pretty much know."

"What do you know?" Destiny asked, arching a brow.

"I'm guessing he's the one who wanted you to be his sex slave," Jasmine said smartly, blowing on her nails. "He seems like the type."

    Destiny's brows shot up.

"I know my shit." Jasmine shrugged.

"Things didn't work out," Destiny said, shifting the weight of her backpack.

"What happened?" Jasmine perched on the edge of the desk.

Destiny sighed and lowered her backpack. "He didn't want a commitment. I did."

"Ouch." Jasmine sucked air between her teeth.

Destiny didn't want to go into further detail than that. She didn't want to chance any information about his interests getting out. "Maybe it's for the best," Destiny said, trying to make her voice sound light.

The look in Jasmine's eyes was sympathetic. "If you believed that, you wouldn't have moped around here for the past few weeks."

Destiny brushed her hair back again, just to give her hands something to do. "I really need to get going."

"Destiny...Just know that everything that is meant to happen, will happen. Timing is everything. He might not want commitment now, but maybe he will later. Maybe now just wasn't the right time for you two to come together. There's nothing wrong with standing up for what you want. And maybe you'll be the one to show him that not all commitments are bad." Jasmine thought about it and added, "Just most."

Destiny laughed and nudged her in the arm. "I have to get going."

"Are you going home for Thanksgiving?" Jasmine asked.

Destiny shook her head. "No, but I will be going home for Christmas."

"Not going home for Thanksgiving?" Jasmine asked, wrinkling her nose. "Are you sure you don't want to come home with me?"

Destiny laughed. "I'll be fine. I have studying that I need to do, anyway."

Jasmine hugged her before she left. Destiny could tell that she was still concerned. She assured Jasmine that she would be fine.
