The rest of the week went by in a blur. Aubrey taught Destiny his preferences. He took training very seriously, answered her questions. While he prepared most meals, she was responsible for the cleaning. Sometimes he worked while she cleaned. Other times, he requested for her to undress before cleaning and would watch her as she completed her tasks. It all depended on his mood and workload.
Carlos, Jasmine, Candace, and her parents all called and texted her to check in with her. As instructed, she always awaited Aubrey's permission before answering phone calls or text messages. He usually wanted to see text messages before she responded to them, which amused her. After all, he could still date other women and yet he was possessive to the point of wanting to make sure that other men weren't texting her.
Awaiting his permission before answering a text or phone call, in and of itself, was not as easy as it would seem. When her phone rang, it was habitual for her to grab it and answer it. She had to completely rewire her brain and impulses in order to fulfill this request.
There were days when he would show her what he was working on in his home office, so she had an idea of what he did on a day to day basis. If he wasn't showing her the work he was doing, he was allowing her to sit in on conference calls. He confided in her about the stresses of the job, was pleased with her when she did all she could to comfort him.
He made arrangements for them to fly into Phoenix, Arizona, the following Tuesday. Prior to visiting her family, he wanted to give her a tour around the offices of the Graham Enterprises headquarters location in Toronto. His driver drove them since he wasn't in the mood to deal with Monday morning traffic.
When the limousine pulled up to the Graham Enterprises building, Destiny pressed her hands against the car window, her mouth dropping open in amazement.
"Unlike the office building in D.C., this entire building is ours," Aubrey explained, seated beside her. "So feel free to be impressed." He leaned forward to give his driver instructions regarding when to return.
Destiny continued staring up at the building. The surface of the building looked to be all glass and steel, beautifully crafted. The building had a jagged, layered design. She couldn't believe the man she was...involved with, owned the company that was based in this building.
The driver stepped out of the car and opened the door for them. Destiny accepted his offered hand and tilted her head back, trying to get a full view of the building's height. Thirty stories. At least. When she turned her head to survey the other buildings, she realized that this building was a part of the Toronto skyline.
"Do you like it?" Aubrey asked her as he stepped out of the car to join her.
"There are no words to express how beautiful this building is," she said, looking at him.
"That means a lot, coming from a journalist." He smiled and placed a guiding hand at her back. He escorted her into the lobby, where he was greeted by everyone who saw him. He was polite and courteous, but kept conversation brief with most of the employees who stopped him.
The lobby had a classic-meets-modern elegant look to it, glossy tiled marble floors with chrome accents. He led her to a row of five elevators and pressed the Up button.
"This building..." She shook her head, at a loss for words.
"This building is where your office will be located," he finished for her as the elevator doors slid open.
"Office? I get an office?"
He laughed and gestured for her to enter the elevator.
She stepped into the elevator, all of a sudden feeling like her black, sleeveless, knee-length dress and simple black pumps were too understated for this office building.
