Destiny walked down the office aisle clutching the strap of the laptop case she held in front of her. The skirt of her pinstripe patterned dress brushed against her knees as she moved towards Aubrey's office.
Employees were beginning to clear out for the day, but she barely noticed. A movie reel was playing behind her eyes as she strode down the aisle, visuals of exactly what could happen once she entered Aubrey's office and closed the door. Those visuals included being pressed against the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, him throwing her on the desk and ripping her dress to shreds, and her riding him in his desk chair.
By the time she reached Bridgette's desk, her face felt hot and she was tugging at the collar of her short-sleeved dress.
"Are you okay?" Bridgette asked, lifting an eyebrow.
Destiny nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said quickly.
Bridgette looked her up and down. The short time Destiny had been here, she'd gotten the vibe that Bridgette didn't like her much. Bridgette always gave her a borderline sneer instead of the smile she flashed at everyone else, Aubrey and Brian included.
It can't help that both Aubrey and Brian are into me, Destiny thought. If she's caught wind of Brian's interest then she definitely hates me. "I'm here to see-"
"Aubrey, I bet," Bridgette said, offering a sugary sweet smile. "I'll let him know you're here."
"Okay," Destiny said, turning her head and surveying the waiting area outside of Aubrey's office.
Colorful, high quality chairs formed a half-circle at one end of the room. Artwork and an LED monitor displaying company news graced the walls. One look at the interior decoration of Graham Enterprises and it was obvious that Aubrey had a hand in its design. He had a keen eye for color schemes, something that reflected in both his wardrobe and the furniture he chose for his condo.
"You know..."
Destiny rolled her eyes at the sound of Bridgette's voice, but when she looked at the glorified receptionist, she made sure a smile was on her face. "Yes?"
Bridgette removed her headset and set it down on her desk. "It's not any of my business or anything, but you and Aubrey should be more careful when it comes to how you interact around the office."
Destiny narrowed her eyes. "You think so?"
"People are talking about you and him," Bridgette said with a shrug. "You have lunch together, you're visiting each other all the time...it's even rumored that you live together."
"I don't understand why anyone would care," Destiny said.
"It's not appropriate. Not for a workplace. Topics like nepotism come up when an indecent relationship is flaunted in the workplace. And right now with all that Graham Enterprises is going through, the last thing it needs is another wild accusation." The phony smile was frozen on her face as she spoke the words. There was something unmistakably cold about the glint in her eyes.
Destiny stared at her without speaking.
The door to Aubrey's office opened and he walked out. "I'm sorry to keep you waiting," he directed at Destiny. "I had to wrap up a conference call."
Destiny continued glaring at Bridgette. She could feel her blood boiling. The nerve of this girl, trying to tell her what she should do with her relationship? "You're right, Bridgette. It isn't your business." She turned on her heel and breezed past Aubrey into his office.
