Aubrey lightly tapped the keys of the piano with his eyes closed. He should be sleeping, but found that attempting to sleep while Destiny was still out on the town was impossible. So he had tried to work to get his mind off of worrying about Destiny. That hadn't worked either; he had been too distracted. He had tried watching television. There were movies on that he hadn't seen yet, but he hadn't been able to focus on them. The piano and music were his last hope. The feel of the keys and the sound of the music did help ease some of his stress.
He played and sang to an empty room. Once in awhile, he would pause and glance at his watch. It was getting so very late. He tried texting her and hadn't received a response. She's at a club. Her phone could be dead, or the phone could be buried in her purse. Give her time. Calm down.
His doorbell rang and he exhaled with relief as he rose from his piano. He crossed the room, running a hand over his head. If he had been in his right mind, it would have occurred to him that Destiny had a key to the condo and wouldn't have had to use the doorbell. But he wasn't in his right mind...he was beside himself with worry.
He pulled open the door to the condo wearing a relieved smile. That smile died on his face when he saw who actually stood in the hallway. "Palmer?"
A heavyset Caucasian man with gray hair and a flushed face grinned at him. "Long time no see, Aubrey."
