Toronto was a beautiful city. With stunning architecture and a richness of culture, the city sat on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario. As Aubrey drove, Destiny peered out of the passenger window. She saw all walks of life walking the streets or playing in parks around the city.
He drove to Toronto Eaton Centre, one of the better malls in the city. Parked his car, got out of the car, and opened the door for her.
Walking through a mall with Aubrey was an experience unlike any other. She had to remember to walk behind him. He moved very quickly and kept a baseball cap pulled down low on his forehead. He kept his head lowered most of the time, not wanting to be recognized. He still was recognized, of course. His fans were respectful and didn't completely bum rush him, but several of them gave him high-fives or started rapping lyrics to some of his songs.
He was very gracious to them and took the time to talk to each of them for a few minutes.
Destiny hadn't had many boyfriends in her life, but the few she'd had dreaded accompanying her to the mall. Even her male friends talked about the long, endless waiting times they'd endured while their girlfriends tried on clothes. Aubrey, however, did not seem to have that same outlook on shopping. He was extremely interactive, choosing which stores for them to visit and reviewing the selections of clothes on the racks. One of the last stores they visited was Marciano, a store associated with Guess.
"We're only going to purchase some of your wardrobe from this mall," he'd explained as he slid articles of clothing around a circular rack, evaluating different pieces of clothing. "We're going to grab the rest from designer shops. You deserve better than clothes that just come off the rack." He draped several dresses across his arm.
One of the store clerks, a pretty brown-skinned girl with her hair pulled back in a ponytail, approached them. "Did you need help finding any-" She cut her question short and her eyes widened with recognition. "You're Drake," she told him, as if he didn't already know his identity.
He smiled, continuing to search through the dresses on the rack. "I am, yes."
"Oh my God." She covered her mouth with her hands. She blinked a few times, then dropped her hands and called over her shoulder, "Brianne! It's Drake! Drake is here! In our store!"
He angled a look down at Destiny, who was trying hard not to laugh.
"I have all of your CD's," the clerk went on. "My name is Shayna. Oh my God, I can't believe you're standing in front of me right now. Brianne, hurry up! And bring my cell phone!"
"You really shouldn't leave the cash register unattended," he warned her, looking concerned.
"My manager is cool," Shayna said with a flip of her wrist.
Aubrey's eyebrows shot up. "Well...I mean, all right, as long as your manager is cool." He gave Destiny another look.
"Please, just one picture," Shayna begged him.
"A quick picture," he granted. He lifted the dresses draped over his arm and laid them across the top of the rack. He unbuttoned the cuffs of his white dress shirt and rolled the sleeves up his forearms. "Where do you want to do this?"
Shayna glanced around the store. "Umm...right here is fine."
Brianne, a short, petite blonde, approached them and handed Shayna her cell phone.
Destiny took a few steps back to give them room to take the picture.
Shayna leaned in close and held the cell phone up, using the front-facing camera. Aubrey smiled charmingly. When she was finished taking the picture, she held the phone in front of her face and reviewed the photo. "Ugh, I look so ugly in this. Can we take one more?"
