Chapter 9

I went to my room and immediately locked the doors. I'm not sure if he went to his room too because I didn't hear him follow.

I sat on a chair and heaved out a sigh. My heart is still beating fast because of running, and because I was surprised he got mad. I'm not used to him being angry, he was always cocky, and he always had this caustic humor, somewhat close to being funny and somewhat close to being frank. But he was never mad. It was the first time he raised his voice in anger.

I can't blame him though, he's responsible of me. I went out with him riding a horse in a bad weather, if anything bad happened, it will be chaotic between our families.

I sighed and looked at the door that I locked. I don't believe that he'll force himself in my room. And even if he barges in here, I won't have anything to say.

I can't voice out what's in my head, it will be too selfish, it will sound too petty. I, myself find it annoying, so it's better to keep it all to myself.

I looked outside the window when a lightning struck in the dark sky. I wonder if he's gonna leave even when it's raining this hard. I want him to leave so I won't have to see him but then I'll be worried too, because it looks like it's gonna be a stormy day today.

I heaved out a sigh. It took me almost an hour to finally go to the bathroom and take a shower. I almost forgot that I'm wet if only Corine did not knock on my door to ask me if she should bring my lunch to my room.

I took a quick shower because I suddenly feel cold. I changed into my pajama too because I don't want to go out of my room anymore. I'm planning to lock myself up the whole day to avoid Dylan. I turned off the aircon and wrapped myself up with the comforter.

It's strange that I feel cold. I need a thermometer to check my temperature but I already predicted that it's really gonna be a fever when I started sneezing too.

A few minutes past and I heard Corine knocking at my door. I stood up to open it for her since I asked her to bring my lunch here instead.

"Ayos ka lang ba, Miss?" she asked after fixing the small round table for me.

I smiled and sat at the chair. I smelled the hot mushroom soup and I felt like I need it so bad. "I'm fine, I just feel a bit cold."

She looked at the aircon and back at me. "Nilalamig ka po?" she asked unbelievably.

I chuckled. She must be surprised, because I'm used to the cold and it never affected me.

She touched my forehead and her eyes widened. "Nilalagnat ka, Miss Armie!"

I knew it.

"Naku, dahil nagpaulan ka." Now she looks worried.

I smiled at her. "I'll just eat and sleep, I'll be fine later. Please get me some medicine and the thermometer too."

"Naku, Miss, sigurado po kayong ayos lang kayo? Ngayon ka palang nilagnat, hindi ko alam ang gagawin ko," she said in a panic that made me laugh a bit.

I don't easily get sick and this time, I'm sure it's just a normal fever because I got soaked in the rain. This is also the first time that I got sick while Corine is around, I know this is new to her but I'm not actually someone who needs to be taken care of, because I can do it alone.

I smiled at her. "You don't have to worry, Corine. I'm a nursing student, I can take care of myself."

Still, she looks so worried, her worry didn't even fade. She sighed. "Kumain kana po habang mainit ang soup. Kukuha ako ng gamot at thermometer."
