"What does the queen want this time?" I asked rolling my eyes.
"Like I would know," Mila responds. "I just hope it's something manageable." I sighed. At this point I work for the queen more than with Felix. At least with Felix we can make out and shit, with her it's all business. I looked around the room aimlessly, awaiting the arrival of Queen Monette. I hear the clicking of heels around the corner. No doubt it's the queen.
"No I don't want crab, I want lobster and shrimp. What is so hard to understand about that?" I heard her snap, calmly. Sheesh, kinda harsh.
"But your highness, we have no lobster available at the moment!" I heard someone attempt to explain to her. Obviously, she doesn't want to hear it.
"I don't care if you have to fly them in from Sea World, just get me some lobster by tomorrow night! Am I clear?"
"Yes my queen."
Mila and I exchanged looks of confusion and fear. Queen Monette sounds like she's in a bad mood. I wonder how she's gonna take it out on us today.
The queen strolled in. She looks very... solemn. And a little pissed off if I'm being honest.
"You summoned us your highness," Mila says. She nodded her head.
"The reasoned I called you here is because..." I braced myself. What will she have us do this time. "I wanted to give you these," she handed out two envelopes, one with my name, and one with Mila's. "These are your paychecks," she informed us. I opened the envelope seal and pull out the check. My eyes nearly roll out of their sockets when I see the number.
"T-ten... thousand... dollars?!" I gasped, unsure if what I'm seeing is even real right now. Even Mila looks surprised, and she's seen probably hundreds of these.
"This is a very generous amount your highness!" she exclaimed.
"You both have been working incredibly hard recently. Baker, I'm very impressed with you. Not only have you been serving Felix and Aria properly, but I hear you do extra to help around the palace. My son says wonderful things about you, Aria as well," she commended. I blush with excitement, I hope I'm hiding it well.
"Thank you your highness, truly I'm flattered," I gushed.
"And with that being said-" she began. Mila and I look at each other. What else could she have up her sleeve? "I'm giving you two the day off tomorrow," she announced. A a day off! I can relax, or I could visit Felix. Maybe I'll do some shopping out in the city. "I'd recommend that you two spend your day off with each other. Build a work relationship, get to know each other," she suggested. I really don't give a shit how I spend my day off. Mila's cool, and everyone likes her. "However," she says. "There's a dinner tomorrow at seven that you are required to attend, please don't be late."
"Who's attending?" I asked.
"You two, Felix, Aria, and myself. It will be an intimate setting," she explained.
"We will be there your majesty," Mila promised.
"Splendid. Oh, and Baker, one more thing," she whipped a key card out of thin air, extending it with two fingers. I grabbed it from her and examine it closely. It's gold, and looks just like Mila's except it has my name on it. "This is your ID," she explained. "It gives you access to everywhere within the palace, including the elevator. That is all," she walked off to go attend to more queen-like duties. That's probably why she was so upset about the lobster, they were on the dinner menu. If anyone knows how to get lobster, it would definitely be Florent.
"So Baker, would you like to spend your day off with me?" Mila asked.
"Sure. Two o-clock tomorrow?"
"Let's meet at the front entrance, we can go to the city," she suggested.
