Chapter 23

All the members of Rideout were celebrating their win at Maiko's house. They were having a feast.

"Eat all you want guys! You deserve it!"

Shinki, Katana, and Kyo all have their plates full. Meanwhile, Gabe and Lui just had spaghetti.

"You guys were amazing out there! Congratulations!" Ayaka congratulated Gabe. And he was flustered. It's not everyday one of Japan's biggest stars compliment you. But in the far corner, Zac was glaring daggers at them (specifically Gabe).

"Ok Gabe, congrats! You earned it!" Zac said, faking a smile while pushing Ayaka away from Gabe.

"Awww is someone jealous~?" Ayaka teased Zac when they were in a corner, far from the crowd.

"Hmp! Impossible! Not true!" He denied while aggressively shoving a spoon of spaghetti into his mouth.

Ayaka just chuckled while wiping a little stain on his cheek. Zac softened his posture and stared at his beautiful girlfriend's face. He was caught off guard when Ayaka placed a quick kiss on his lips.

"No need to be jealous Zachary Kaneguro. You'll always be the sun in my solar system~" Ayaka promised.

"The individual matches are also up. Are you guys ready?" Maiko said to the team.

"Yeah, but only captain and Lui are participating. We never got in." Katana answered.

"Awww I'm sorry guys."

"It's fine, don't worry about it."
Katana reassured.

"Hey, isn't YOUR competition starting soon? 'The next big Sun' or something?" Shinki asked.

"Shinki it's 'The Next Big STAR'! Not 'Sun'!" Maiko corrected.

"Oh.." Was all Shinki could say.

"Oh and yes, it starts tomorrow! You guys will be cheering for me right?" Maiko said, jumping up and down.

"HAHAHA! Of course!" Kyo said.

"You got this one in the bag, Maiko!" Gabe said, placing a hand on her shoulder.

"Thanks you guys!" She teared up.

A little while later, Maiko stepped outside on the balcony. She found Lui silently staring at the scenery. Maiko quietly stood beside him and joined him at admiring the view.

"I heard your competition is starting soon." Lui said, still staring at the view.

"Yeah.. Too bad I won't be able to watch you guys battle though.." She pouted.

"Don't worry about that. Just focus on your own match." He said. Maiko gave him a warm smile and placed her head on his shoulder. The both of them quietly gazed at the beautiful view infront of them.

It was the day of Maiko's competition. And she was in her dressing room getting ready. She was wearing a flowery gown where the skirt is detachable. The host was still making the opening speech so she has time to watch Lui's battle.

Luckily, it was a quick battle. Lui finished the match just in time for Maiko's performance. Both of them were the first competitors for their own matches.

"Miss Maiko, you're on standby." The stage crew said. "Thank you." Maiko said and head on up the stage.

"And now!!!! It's time for Our Little Miss Starlight to take the stage!" The host announced and the crowd went wild.

Maiko appeared and the crowd cheered loudly than before. She wished all of her friends were here in the arena right now. But sadly they all had other things to do. Gabe, Lui, and Zac with the Nationals and Ayaka was filming her new movie. But she understands them. She knows they're all cheering for her.

But did her friends really miss her contest? Of course not! Shinki, Katana, and Kyo were in the arena watching the show in Katana's phone while waiting for their captain's turn to battle. And Zac also did the same while waiting in the waiting room. And it wasn't Ayaka's scene yet, so she has plenty of spare time. She stayed in her dressing room and watched the show.

And when Lui's match ended, he immediately went outside, sat down on one of the balcony's lunch tables and watched Rideout's own cheerleader rise in her own match.

She then began her song.

"What a performance from our 2 beautiful singers! But only 1 could go to the next level! Who's it gonna be??" The host announced.

The judges were whispering to each other.

Maiko is very confident she'll win. She wore a proud smile over her face.

The judges finally decided who the winner is. "Both of you did such astonishing performances. You both had amazing voices." The judge started. "Akari, your performance was very minimalistic. But that was the problem, it lacked a little more 'pizzaz'. Your theme didn't match the genre of your song since it was an upbeat song." The first judge commented. And Akari just hung her head down low.

"And yours Maiko... Let me just say... Wow... Your performance really does resemble a misty dream! Hahaha!" The judge laughed. The whole audience clapped and Marina just chuckled. "Your theme really matches with your song, and it was perfection! You went all out with your performance! And while I was watching your performance, I felt like I was in a dream..." The second judge awed.

"So that's why.. You're the winner!" The third judge announced. And all of Maiko's fans roared. She bowed again and again, thanking the judges.

She then hugged Akari to comfort her for her loss. "Don't worry! You have lots of potential! You'll rise up! I'm sure of it!" She smiled brightly at her. Akari teared up and hugged Maiko again.

This was just Maiko's beginning to her road to stardom.
