It was finally the finals for Maiko's competition. And you'd expect her to be jumping up and down out of either nervousness or excitement...But here she is... Still fast asleep...
She was twisting and turning.
"Congratulations, Maiko! You're Japan's next big star!"
Confetti was all over the floor.
The host declared Maiko as the winner. And she was crying tears of joy as she was handed the bouquet. All of her fans were roaring, and Haruto as well.
Then, all of her loved ones ran up to the stage and tackled Maiko in a hug— Rideout, Ayaka, Zac, and her mom.
Once they all retreated from the hug, Maiko made eye contact with Lui. They were both staring into each other's eyes; not saying a single word. Lui was proudly smiling at her victory.
They both stepped closer to each other....
And when they were inches apart...
"Congrats, Maiko." Lui smirked.
And they both lean into each other until....
"MAIKO WAKE UP!!!" Zac pushed his sister off the bed. Maiko's instincts came in and quickly did some karate stances.
But stopped when she realised it was just her brother.
"Oh mann... Just 5 more minutes.." She yawned and was about to crash into the bed again.
"MAIKO KANEGURO! IT'S THE FINALS TODAY! OR DO YOU PLAN TO FORFEIT THE COMPETITION?!" Zac shouted at his sister.
And mysteriously, Maiko stopped mid-air when she was just about to hit the comfortable mattress.
"Oh you're right—" She said and quickly head to the showers. Zac just sighed.
When Maiko was done, she immediately ran downstairs. There, she saw Ayaka, Zac, and her mom eating pancakes.
"Good morning everyone!" She greeted them and quickly ate her pancakes.
"Are you all set for your performance dear?" Her mom asked. And Maiko nodded.
"I'm gonna give it all I got! I'm gonna win this thing! And when I do, I'll finally be as good as big brother!" She shouted, her eyes sparkling with determination.
"Oh sweetie, you and your brother are both the brightest stars in my sky." Her mother said, her voice as smooth and calm as an angel's.
"Ehem— you might wanna get off the table now dear sister..." Zac sweat dropped.
"Oh—"
Maiko didn't notice that she was now standing on top of the table. She got off the table with a sheepish smile on her face.
But her smile was replaced with a frown, and she was now sighing.
"What's wrong dear?" Her mother asked.
"I just wished Naito was here..." Maiko sighed. Her older big brother, Naito, lived in France. Far away from them. He's the oldest among the siblings.
"Don't worry Maiko, I'm sure Naito is cheering for you." Her mother reassured. Maiko gave a warm smile.
-------
All of them went inside the car and drove off to the arena for the big day. Maiko's heart was racing while on the road.
And they finally made it to the venue. Once they got off the car, Maiko saw Rideout in the distance. She quickly ran towards them.
"What are you guys doing here?!" She gasped.
"We're here to cheer you on of course!" Gabe chuckled. Shinki, Katana, and Kyo were holding bright lightsticks.
"Woohoo!"
"Go Maiko!"
"You can do this!"
They all cheered for Rideout's no.1 cheerleader. Maiko always cheers her heart out for them. It's time for them to cheer for her now.
"Awww you guys...." Maiko was close to tearing up. And they all enveloped Maiko in a group hug.
-----
Maiko took one good look at the mirror and sighed. She was wearing a floral dress, her hair neatly curled. This was gonna decide her destiny.
"You can do this Maiko.... You've made it this far... Your goal is just within your reach..." She whispered to herself. And walked out of the dressing room, about to perform.
While walking on the quiet hallways, she was met with striking violet eyes. Violet eyes that she wanted to see today.
They stared at each other for a moment. She didn't expect him to come to her show, since Lui wasn't the type to watch these things.
"Goodluck on your performance." Lui said rather coldly. But Maiko knew deep down, he cares for her. She tried to not let a tear fall because it'll ruin her make-up.
The one person in her heart that she wished to see today, actually came. She's overwhelmed with emotions right now. All of her loved ones were watching. She can't lose now.
To avoid crying, she hugged Lui tightly and buried her face in his boa (carefully, so her makeup doesn't get smudged).
"Thank you... Lui..." She whispered.
Lui hugged the girl tightly.
"You're gonna win this, don't worry. If those judges don't make you the winner, they're either blind or just stupid." Lui whispered.
Maiko stifled a chuckle and retreated from the hug.
"Well, better get going now... See ya later!" She waved goodbye and walked off. But suddenly he grabbed her wrist and kissed her...
—cheek.
"Goodluck." Lui said and quickly walked away (because he doesn't want Maiko to see his embarrassed face).
Maiko's cheeks flared as she gently caressed the spot Lui kissed.
But she was snapped out of her thoughts when she heard voices calling out for her.
"Maiko!"
It was Haruto and Akari.
"Oh! Hey guys!" She greeted the two.
"We just wanted to say, GOOD LUCK!" Akari said.
"We're rooting for ya!" Haruto added.
"Thanks guys.." Maiko said.
"Oh- gotta go now! Don't wanna miss the show!" Haruto said as he grabbed Akari's hand and sped off.
"Everyone's cheering for you, Maiko..."
"Mom."
"Zac."
"Ayaka."
"Gabe, Shinki, Katana, and Kyo."
"Akari and Haruto."
"And Lui..."
"I'm gonna win this for you guys..."
