I was sitting at the table in the little lunch area we had, just stewing over everything that's happened. My loneliness didn't last long when Spencer came and sat across from me.
"How you feeling?"
"Like the only way I'll feel somewhat normal is by going to sleep for all eternity." I confessed.
"We are all shocked by finding out about your mother." He admitted making me shrug.
"I'm surprised no one put it together. I did say, Nik killed the person drugging him and that our mother was his first victim. Maybe it just didn't seem possible from the way I spoke about it."
"It just seems unreal. You know."
"I don't blame her issues to herself. Her brother was violent..... probably still is. It's why my cousins went into the care of Pops. He was a fighter in the Vietnam war..... came back abusive and an alcoholic. Just cause they were siblings, didn't mean he held back. Edwin, showing just how broken this whole family can be."
"Is he the reason you hate war?"
"A bit if I'm being honest. Lot of other reasons to hate war, Spencer."
"I didn't think your family was this broken." He admitted.
"Not fully. If I'm honest."
"You have an ancestor who murdered someone on your mothers side. A uncle who was on the fbi wanted list, two cousins who are also criminals, a uncle who looks exactly like your father and is a con artist, you have a feud with your cousin. Every part of your family is a mess River. I think it's the most broken family I have ever seen."
"Ok yeah it does seem bad." I told before moving my head to rest on the table.
"But even though your family appears to be a giant mess, I am not going anywhere. Cause I love you." He told taking my hand in his, making me look up to see him giving me a caring smile.
"Thanks Spence. I love you as well." I told giving him a smile as well.
"I will admit. I was slightly sent to get you because your uncle is in a very heated argument about what animal would win in a fight with a bear." He confessed making me sigh.
"What animals are they suggesting?"
"Nik is adamant that a tiger could beat the bear, while your uncle is stating a buffalo would beat the bear."
"Fucken dysfunctional family." I told before getting up to deal with it. "They should know hippos would fuck up a bear any day."
