I bit my lip gently, earning a small scolding from Key. I shook my head, fearing the trouble. “Harrison, you can eat. She ain’t here to stop you.” Liam said.

I was conflicted between pleasing them or obeying Nana’s words. Key didn’t let me think on it before pulling me to the dining room.

Ambrose looked up from his laptop to greet us. I sat down in the seat Key pointed to. “Good morning, Harrison. Do you feel better from the outburst earlier?” He asked.

I flinched and bent my head down. “I’m sorry.” I murmured quietly. I couldn’t stay here. I stood up, walking to the door. When I heard him stand up, I quickly opened the door.

I ran the whole way to the library. Miss Freya was behind the counter. I walked up to her. “Miss Freya, is Mr. Laker here today? I’m here to read to him.” I said softly. She pointed to the door behind her. I thanked her quickly.

Mr. Laker is a retired veteran, who is 58 years old. He hires me to read to him for hours. He can’t read because his eyesight isn’t the best. He can still see, but reading gives him a terrible headache. He’s one of the owners of the library.

He was sitting on the big chair in the private library. “Sorry for not showing up yesterday, Mr. Laker. What book do you want me to read today?” I said.
