I held a tissue to my lip to stop the bleeding. That night I was terrorized by nightmares. I woke up crying in the morning. I checked the time on my phone.

The phone was a birthday present from the owner of the library. I help him organize the shelves and put the books up. He gave this to me as a thank you.

It was 5:46 am. I got up and grabbed some clothes to get changed in. I snuck out of my room. Liam and Cydall were talking quietly in the family room. I looked past them to the door. I was an expert on sneaking out of the house in the mornings.

When I didn’t get out of the house before Nana saw me, I would get beaten. I quietly walked towards the door. “Harrison, where are you going?” Liam asked. I froze up looking at them in panic. I ran out the door as quickly as I could.

I made it to the library. They didn’t even follow me. I sat in my designated corner of the library. Books have a current way of captivating me. The characters jump out at you. The author has a way of drawing you into the action and drama.

I never knew Miss Freya, one of the employees/my friend, had flopped down beside me until she blew gently into my ear. I jumped, slightly startled. “Oh good morning, Miss Freya. How are you?” I asked softly.

She  smiled at me. I was then squished in a hug. “My goodness child. You’re an angel in disguise, I swear. I could steal you.” She cooed at me. I felt my cheeks heat up from the praise. She planted a kiss onto my cheek.

Miss Freya is 23 years old and really kind. She had a beautiful German Shepherd that had a litter of 3 puppies recently. We worked side by side.

“Angel, would you like to come over to my house?” She asked. I checked the time on my phone. It’s past 12:30 pm. I nodded and followed Miss Freya to her car.
