Sunday November 7th, Mexico.
"Just be careful Hols, yeah?"
Her friend's words still ring in her ears as do the words she used in her reply, "...we both know where we stand, we're friends, we're a team..."
It's been eleven days since she's had sex with Seb, ten if you include their second session in shower, "...just so it takes..."
Its still all she can think of and now they're back at a race circuit and it's Sunday, race day, she's also vividly remembering his accident two weeks ago.
To say her head is all over the place is an understatement.
Britta emerges from hospitality and joins her at the table, leaving the seat next to Holly and the one opposite her free because she's noticed how Seb will always either sit opposite her or next to her and he's due here from a team meeting at any minute to grab a light lunch before the race. Holly looks miles away but then Seb has seemed a bit out of it too and Britta puts it down to them nervously waiting to see if their insemination procedure has worked. They're due to find out any day soon and she's even starting to feel the nerves herself because she knows how much this means to him. "Feeling ok?" she asks Holly as she unscrews the cap on her bottle of water.
Holly just nods and utters a quiet, "yeh," while her eyes are now scanning the busy paddock for a certain man in green.
"If you want to talk, I'm here," Britta offers, thinking that maybe having another woman to talk to might ease her nerves.
She's about to answer and say how she'll be ok when a male figure dressed in green suddenly appears in front of her. She groans internally, Seb will not be amused when he gets here and sees Jake sat in front of her.
"Long time no speak," he grins, his dark eyes sparkling with mischief as he pushes his sunglasses up on top of his head.
At least with Britta here he'll behave himself, she hopes. "Isn't it," she replies dryly.
Jake is fresh out of another short relationship after dating one of the waitresses whom he soon got bored with. He won't be going after Holly though, the fact that she's still coming to races is telling him that her and Seb must be an item, plus it's been noted how close they've become and talked about amongst the team. She's his friend with benefits at the very least.
"No wine or champagne today?" he asks, noticing the glass of sparkling water in front of her.
"No," she frowns a little, thinking that it's a stupid thing for him to say. She doesn't drink a lot anyway, being a surrogate means that she keeps her alcohol intake down to a minimum, especially now that there's a possibility she could be pregnant.
"How's life with the weltmeister treating you? Must be good because you keep coming back," he flashes her another grin while next to him, Britta can see how Holly's already looking annoyed.
She's about to speak up when something or someone catches Holly's eyes.
It feels like he's her saviour when she's see him. He's flanked by Antti and Chris, he's laughing his head off and she doesn't know if he's laughing at something one of them have said or if he's laughing at one of his own lame jokes. But he looks gorgeous; he looks happy and relaxed and why shouldn't he? He's topped the time sheets all weekend so far, he's not put a wheel out of place like the car has been moulded to him and he's favourite to win the race.
She can't stop staring at him and forgets all about Jake in an instant. He's nothing compared to Seb, not a patch on him.
Their eyes meet from quite some distance away, it's almost as if they're communicating telepathically and the smile remains on his beautiful face....until he notices Jake sat opposite her, then his smile turns into a scowl. Where his possessive streak annoyed her before, after the sex they've shared and knowing that she might be pregnant she finds she actually likes it.
