What would happen if Demark never existed? What would happen if he did? What would have happened if he made different decisions? What if he never had went to that temple? What if he had never seen that priest that day? What if he had never learnt how hard it was for the workers to get paid? What if he didn't have a village in which his money had more value? What would the normal workers who lived in the city permanently think of their salary?
Money for the people living in the city would certainly seem less as they would have to pay more for food, education and health. It would seem that the living expenses of those people living downtown would have to pay much more, and therefore would need jobs inorder to survive. But people willing to work for lower wages would be found outside the city, whether it was from the villages under imperial control or foreign lands which were not as rich as Lyson.
Rain was pouring in one dimension of Lyson. Rain wasn't pouring in a different but similar in many ways dimension. In one dimension you would see a large crowd with people holding umbrellas and grey in colour. The plants if they would be able to express would be very happy as just the right amount of water was raining. That amount was not more as to cause damage to the plant or less to cause thrist to the plants.
Seeing the plant as a living thing is more difficult than seeing an animal as one. But at that moment plants were seen vividly even despite the darkness was very prominent indeed.
In another dimension plants could be seen brightly but thirsty. Later the trucks would come and give water to the plants and satisfy their desire. And sight of the warm sun and the greenery amidst the grey tall buildings.
One person stood at the top floor of skycraper. He had an office. The cars and people seemed small at a distance. Trees seemed like leaves and people like small insects. The sounds of cars were silent. The room was silent. The sofas looked comfortable and the tables as if made with expensive wood. The ceiling was red in colour in stark contrast to the blue sky.
The man stood up. In both dimensions the man was standing except that in the first dimension he was holding a cup of tea as the air conditioner was unfortunately not working on such a cold day. Both men in different dimensions were the same people having the same genes,an exact replica, tempered by similar environmental circumstances.
Git was a guest at Lyson. He was also given tea in the second dimension. He was siting partially comfortably because of the sofa and the strong position of Silva on the diplomatic table. He was uncomfortable because of the colour of the ceiling which reminded him of all the sacrifices that had to be made in order for peace to occur.
The man took out a cigarette from his box of cigarettes and lighted one. He inhaled deeply. He offered a cigarette to Git. "No thank you, Mr President." Git refused politely.
The President was wearing a black suit and was very tall. He wore narrow glasses that had a black frame. The hair was well groomed and it seemed that he had quite alot of privacy from the press.
Git coming from Silva had been a very hot topic and was all over the news. "Successful General travels to one of the most developed place in the world."
The room was private. Git could be easily captured with the kind of military and arrangements they had. But Lyson knew the consequences of capturing a renown general before the war even started. Of course they would have an upper hand in skilled manpower in tactics as Lyson would have relatively more Generals. But it would lose trust of the security and symbol of peace it presented to its guests.
"I am here to offer a deal."Git said confidently."Give 30 percent of your arable land and we will not go into war." Git continued.
He was a consistent man as he told the same words as the same sequence and timing in the second dimension. His words sounded clear as it was silent in the room in both dimensions despite the rain. The atmosphere turned dark in the second dimension after he told these words.
"We have had good relations with Silva for years. The embassy of Silva was established in 1950s is still standing today and we have a record of high delegation visits and we have traded steel with Silva and we have given food in return" The President said.
"We have been trading steel at unreasonable prices with Lyson. We were dependent on Lyson for food, and that had backfired. Food was too expensive. Now we have many scientists willing to work with steel, to make factories and other research and development works. We need the steel and also we need food, but buying food at such a cost simply does not benefit Silva, even though its a basic need." Git told the President respectfully.
"30 percent of our land for what compensation?" The President asked.
"30 percent of your land and we will join hands in military co operation otherwise we will go into war." Git replied.
"That simply isn't a good deal. You know about our stores and granaries. Even in times of war we have enough food to outlast you. Not to mention our military strength surpasses yours. No country has had the strength to participate in war against Lyson."
The President said."Silva, with its partners will end the war quickly. Our country men won't suffer from famine. Same goes for our allies."
The President sat down on his chair. He threw the cigarette in the dust bin and lit another one.
"Then you leave me with no other choice General Git." The President said.
For a second to Git, it seemed that the eyes of the President turned red, the same colour as the ceiling. Then it turned black again.
"Our soldiers will meet on the battlefield, General Git. Hope your prepared." The President said.
Git rose to leave. It was still sunny outside in the second dimension. It was still raining in the first.
