Valley Fest was always so popular. Pretty much everyone in the Valley showed up, whether it was to get out of the house or spend time with special people. So, regardless, the fair ground was always packed, long lines coming from the food stalls and rides, children running around screaming and laughing, and music blaring from the speakers and rides to keep everyone's energy up. It was great.
Hawk remembered coming to the event every year with his parents when he was a kid, but as he had gotten older that had fizzled out. It had become less fun after a while, primarily when people from his school had started taking notice of him for all the wrong reasons. So he'd skipped out on going for the last couple of years, but not this time.
He wasn't scared of people seeing him anymore. He couldn't be, especially since he was standing on stage in front of everyone who had shown up to the fair.
He and the Cobras were putting on a demonstration to attract more students, that way anyone who did want to do karate wouldn't go to Miyagi-Do. They'd crashed their demo to make sure of that and it was going so well. There was no way they wouldn't get more attention because of it; first the tournament and now Valley Fest. They were taking the Valley by storm.
Among the crowd, he could see Demetri and Moon. They seemed to be having a good time watching the performance and that gave him a big confidence boost. It was going great.
What perplexed him was the girls standing with them, but he didn't get a good look at them until Aisha was on the stage breaking boards and he got a moment to catch his breath. They were close to the front, the colorful strobe lights illuminating their faces. He had never seen them before, but from what he could tell, one was super short and broody and the other was curvy with pretty cool hair. However, seeing them there, close to his friends, didn't throw him off his game. If anything, it inspired him more.
So, when it was his turn to show off all that he'd learned, he walked over to the edge of the stage and pulled Demetri up there. He handed him a board to hold while another Cobra got into position. Once ready, he ran and performed his best spinning kick and broke the board. It was exhilarating to hear the crowd cheering for him, the adrenaline and excitement coursing through his entire body.
His eyes couldn't help but fall on the groups of girls in the crowd, Moon in between the new girls, all with varying levels of admiration on their faces. Moon was the only one cheering, the other two clapping along with her. He grinned, feeling like he had succeeded at impressing them.
Once the demo was finished, the whole place was going wild. It was amazing, very much affirming everything Hawk had come to think of himself. He was good, in fact he was great. Karate was something he had come to excel in and he took that with pride. With a crowd cheering for him and his teammates once again, he felt like he was on top of the world.
After everything calmed down, he and the other Cobras went their separate ways, except for Miguel and Aisha. The night wasn't over by any means. The rides were still running and the music was still playing, so he intended to make the best out of the night. So they approached their friends, wearing their normal clothes again, with big smiles on their faces.
"You guys!" Moon said in greeting, beaming at them. "That was so amazing! You guys just keep getting better and better!"
"Thanks, Moon," Aisha said, grinning. They all still felt the adrenaline and excitement, either from performing or watching.
Miguel nodded, then looked to the two girls they didn't know. "Who's this?"
Now that they were closer, Hawk could see the girls had their similarities, making him think they must be related somehow. They stayed close to each other, keeping to themselves, and watching the group with careful eyes. The short one was wearing a band tee and jeans, a flannel hanging off her shoulders; the other had her pink hair pinned back and hanging loosely down her back, and was wearing a fishnet top under a red cami and black shorts. He couldn't help but think they were cute.
