Dread filled Hawk's heart as he stared at his phone, waiting for a message from Penelope, but none had come through yet and hadn't for hours. Somewhere in his mind, he knew he shouldn't be worried about it, because she probably hadn't checked her phone yet, but he couldn't help but be a little anxious. He looked forward to talking to her, but texting had become the only way they could really talk thanks to their schedules.

Their karate lessons didn't line up, her late mornings usually taken up by Miyagi-Do training while his afternoons were filled with Cobra Kai's. It felt like some outside force trying to force a wedge between them, which in retrospect he knew was a stupid idea because he had never asked her out. Now, he felt like he couldn't and wouldn't get the chance to.

The texts were all they had at the moment and he'd take every crumb he could get of them.

Part of him felt stupid for falling for a girl that ended up joining the rival dojo. Maybe if she had joined a different dojo in the Valley, like those pussies at Topanga Karate, it wouldn't have mattered so much. However, it just had to be the one that his dojo was bitter rivals with and there for it mattered a fuck ton.

He tried to tell himself to stop acting like a pussy, but it wasn't working. His mind was still thinking about Penelope while his heart was still falling for her, regardless of her chosen alliance with the enemy.

It was complex and he hated the circumstances that he'd found himself in. He tried to stop thinking about it, but that was harder said than done.

At the very least, it gave them something else to talk about. He loved reading her texts after she got out of training; the long little paragraphs she would write up and send to him gushing about something new she'd learned were so cute. Whether it was just some technique she'd gained from doing chores or how to find her meditative state, she was just so excited to tell him about it, and that was enough for him.

Now if only one of those adorable messages would come through, he'd be happy.

He was sitting at a table with his friends, mindlessly eating fries from a basket they'd gotten not too long ago. He'd almost forgotten where he was, surrounded by his friends as they patiently awaited their food to be served. Appetizers weren't nearly enough and wouldn't hold them over for long - they were a bunch of teens who'd just gotten out of karate training, they were hungry vultures.

The conversation that buzzed around their table went on without him, leaving him behind because he was being a downer. No one had said that, but he knew they were thinking it. They had come out to have a good time and he was sitting there thinking about how the universe hated him.

He thought everything had turned around for him, that the universe was finally on his side for once in his life. He'd done everything to turn himself into a badass. He wasn't a loser anymore, so why was he still falling for the bait? The bait that good things could happen to him, only for it to be ripped away as soon as habit onto the hook. When the line got pulled, it tugged and pulled on him until it tore through him. After that, all he was left with was broken expectations and a cut up lip...

So this is completely unrelated to the chapter, but I happened upon a picture that looks exactly like how I picture the dad/uncle Donnie but it's literally a picture I came across on twitter that someone shared of their dad lol. Idk how to feel about that but yeah, I wanted to shared that tidbit of information.

ANYWAY, how are we feeling about Hawk atm? He's so broken up playing the role of Romeo. Do you think he'd go against his dojo to ask out his Juliet? If he could ever stop thinking about asking her out and actually do it that is...
