Hawk had been to the beach plenty of times, whether he wanted to be there or not, so he was used to seeing all sorts of people there. The locals and their families looking to have a great day out by the ocean; the teens like him hanging out with their friends; the tourists sightseeing and taking pictures. Everyone in their bikinis and trunks of varying colors and patterns; kids with their arm floats and slathered in sunscreen by their overbearing mothers. There was nothing there he hadn't seen before.

Well, that was true until he brought Penelope there.

He couldn't take his eyes off of her; from head to toe, she was strikingly beautiful. She'd gone out and bought a new swimsuit, a hot two piece that showed off all her curves in high waisted bottoms and a halter style top. He could tell she was nervous to actually wear it, but he couldn't be more happy she had gone through with it. The strawberry pattern she'd picked out matched her hair, which was pulled up into two ponytails that just made her all the more adorable.

She had become the only sight worth seeing at the beach as far as he was concerned.

The way she was looking at him, attentively listening to him as he told her about the different kinds of shells she could find on the beach, had his head spinning. He managed to keep his cool despite her blushing face. If he didn't know better, he would have thought she had sunburn. The truth was that she hadn't stopped blushing since he showed her his tattoo, which seemed to really impress her and made him grin.

They were searching the sand for shells and other little treasures, their knees in the sand, when he came across a pretty shell. He quickly dug it out before the tide could whisk it away, cleaning it off and smiling to himself. He looked over at Penelope as she pushed her hands into the sand, which caused his smile to widen.

He still couldn't believe she had never been to a beach before. She'd told him that she'd been to lakes, but that wasn't the same to him. There was nothing like tasting the sea salt in the air and looking out at the horizon, it was incomparable. So there was something about the way she reacted to it all, with the innocence of a kid really, that made it so endearing.

"Hey, look at this," he said, calling for her attention. He had the shell clasped in his hands carefully, happy to reveal it to her when she looked at him. Her jaw dropped as she saw the pretty pink and white scallop shell laying in his palm. It was only half of the actual shell, but it was whole, unchipped. It looked perfect. "It goes great with your hair."

Penelope had been a consistent pink all day, but she started to turn red when he said that. He put the shell in her hand and smiled at her. She smiled back and held it in her hands oh so carefully.

Hawk could feel eyes on him, but he didn't give one single fuck. He was at a point in his life, after just a few months of karate training, where that didn't matter to him anymore. However, the intense longevity of the odd feeling was a little freaky and almost made him angry. That was until he took a quick look around the beach and saw it was just Frankie.

He didn't care what Frankie of all people had to say. He didn't care what she thought. She had tried to tell him what to do and that didn't sit right with him. She didn't intimidate him. Frankie Harris could be an overprotective family member all she wanted, but Hawk was done taking orders from people who thought they had some kind of power over him. So it didn't matter what Frankie said or did, it wasn't going to change his mind on how he felt about Penelope.

It wasn't even his mind that was to blame. It was his heart.

He was sure of himself that he was two hundred and ten percent interested in Penelope. No other girl had ever captured his attention as much as she did. From the moment he laid eyes on her, he knew she was someone worth getting to know, and since then he just fell for her. He was still falling for her and he eventually wanted to be her boyfriend, if she would have him of course, so no one was going to get in the way of that.
