Demetri was sweating in class, at least figuratively. For a moment, he thought that it wouldn't be so bad if he was actually perspiring because that was fixable. Then he thought about how uncomfortable that'd make him feel and he realized he wasn't able to focus on class at all. He'd missed most of the lesson by the time he came back to reality and frowned. He slumped in his seat and surmised to continue to fret over something that he had no idea what had gone wrong.
Or rather what he had done wrong.
Over the last few weeks, Frankie has barely said anything to him. There were greetings and short sentences in the beginning, but those started fading out fast. Soon, the hellos and goodbyes followed and she just waved at him. She even stopped coming to their study dates, which were always on Mondays and Fridays after school. He'd tried texting her a few times, but she either ignored them or said she was busy. Now she won't even look at him and he's left asking himself what he did wrong.
He racked his brain for something, anything that he did that might have upset her, but was unable to come up with anything. If it was the soccer game, which he and his friends had gotten in trouble for thanks to Eli's lying and ability to look like a kicked puppy at the drop of a hat, that didn't make much sense. Sam was the one who led them into that battle and arguably got the most hits during the whole thing, but Frankie was talking to her like nothing had happened.
When the bell rang, Demetri threw everything into his backpack and headed out the door in a rush. He wasn't exactly in a hurry to get anywhere, but he was anxious. His movements were more jumpy, more erratic. All his nerves were alive with a need to flail his arms in the air and kick his feet until he couldn't move anymore. His mind was running at a thousand miles an hour and he didn't know where it was going, but what he did know was that it was on a search for answers.
Until he had a reason for this to happen, he knew he won't be able to focus on much of anything.

👍👍👍Demetri clicked his phone off and sat back in his desk chair. While the paper was on the forefront of his mind, it was only something he'd chosen to focus on - or at least try to. For hours, he'd been trying to think of a way to approach Frankie and talk to her. If she was done with him, fine, but he'd at least like to know it.
Instead, she had him hanging in limbo. It was torture.
As he pulled himself up to his desk and stared at his laptop, he heard a car horn from outside. Soon, laughter filled the hair and some indistinct chatter. He stood up and looked out the window, seeing Penelope and Robby walking up to Yasmine's white Range Rover. They all wore smiles as they greeted each other and piled into the car. It was only as they drove off, did Demetri realize Frankie had not joined them.
He peeked at the driveway and saw that Mr. Harris' SUV wasn't there. It was obvious that he liked parking their car in the driveway, so for it not to be there meant that Mr. Harris wasn't home, and if all was right in the world, Frankie was.
