The day was dragging on.
All the fun stuff Penelope had planned to do was already done and over with, but it was only early afternoon. She'd helped Donnie put together some lesson plans, something she was only allowed to do since she couldn't be one of his students, and she'd already done her kata since there was no scheduled training for the day. She could sit down and meditate, but that was harder for her to do on her own. She didn't like to sit alone in silence, but if someone was with her then it made her feel better.
Instead, she was sitting on the couch scrolling through Netflix, unsure of what she was even looking for. Nothing was jumping out to her and she wasn't in the mood for anything in particular. She would typically go up to her room and read, but she was in a slump. She would write, but she was having a creative block. Being unmotivated and uninspired made her feel hollow inside and it sucked.
Penelope would ask Frankie to hangout, but she was out of the house doing... something.
She didn't quite know where Frankie disappeared to, but she knew better than to ask. Her cousin liked her privacy, so Penelope respected that. It made her a little worried, but Frankie wasn't coming home high or whacked out of her mind, so she wasn't scared for her well being at least.
Her pocket vibrated, causing Penelope to squirm. She took it and looked at the screen, wondering if it was something that was going to excite her day.
Hawk😍: You home?
She smiled.
Yeah why? :Penelope
Hawk😍: Bc I'm outside ur house
There's a doorbell you know 😜 :Penelope
Hawk😍: This was more fun
Penelope bit her lip and got up, walking to the door. She didn't even peer into the peephole, she just unlocked the door and threw the door open. Her jaw dropped as she gasped at the sight in front of her, her heart skipping a beat.
Hawk stood at her doorstep with a large bouquet of red and pink flowers in hand, a blush on his cheeks. He had an almost nervous smile on his lips as he brought his eyes up to her. "These are for you."
They're so pretty, she signed before taking them. She held them carefully, their wrappings shielding her hands from the thorns, but her main concern was potentially ruining them somehow. Their fragrance wafted her, wrapping her in sweetness and warmth, reminding her grassy meadows and sunny days. She brought them to her chest and smiled into their petals, feeling them tickle her face as she smelled them.
He watched her with adoring eyes, letting her bask in the moment for everything that it was.
Part of her couldn't believe that he'd brought her flowers, roses at that. A boy had never given her flowers before, so her cheeks began to burn bright red as she fawned over them. She couldn't stop smiling.
Looking up at him, she signed, Thank you.
"You don't have to thank me," he told her. He bit his lip, his hands slipping into the pockets of his pants, and she wondered what he was thinking. The flowers were a delightful surprise, but she couldn't help asking herself why. "But you can answer my next question."
She hummed, but it sounded close to a giggle. His eyebrows raised at that, but as she nodded to him, ready for his question, he smiled.
He licked his lips. "Penelope, will you go out with me?"
She felt her heart skip another beat. She thought if it did that again, it might just stop. Her grip on the flowers tightened, nervousness quickly taking over the shock, and she looked away from him with a smile still plastered on her face. Her cheeks were getting sore, but it was in the best way possible.
