The beach was nice. The sand was warm, the water was suitable, and there weren't too many people around. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, which called for sunscreen and sunglasses, but Frankie didn't really mind it. She had never been to a beach, but it wasn't as bad as she had thought it would be. She could do without all the screaming kids running away from the ocean waves, but that was neither here nor there.

Her eyes scanned the area the Cobras took up. She had no idea whose idea it was to spend time at the beach, but everyone else had thought it was a good idea. She could see Assface and Bert were playing volleyball with a couple of other Cobras, Aisha was helping Moon build the biggest sand castle they could manage, and Tory was tanning on a blanket. It was typical beach activities that Frankie was disinterested in.

The only reason she was actually there was because Penelope had been invited.

Frankie was actually a little shocked her cousin wanted to go. Neither of them had ever been to the beach, Pen was usually uncomfortable in swimsuits, and it was a big group hangout kind of thing with people they hardly knew. It was all new territory, which was nerve wracking to a girl like Penelope.

And yet, there was Pen, down by the water, wearing a new two piece. It was black, patterned with strawberries, with high waisted bottoms so that it covered the part of her body Frankie knew Penelope was most insecure about. Even so, she could see her sucking in her stomach to make herself appear smaller, which made Frankie question why her cousin had accepted the invite in the first place.

However, when they arrived, she understood everything.

Hawk Fucking Moskowitz.

He was at the water with Penelope, helping her look for shells. He was smiling and laughing, talking to her endlessly, and her cousin was forever blushing at him. Frankie was too far to hear what they were talking about and was unable to read Pen's sign as their backs were turned to the rest of the group. It didn't keep her from watching over them, though.

She thought if she kept glaring at the back of Hawk's head, she just might make it explode.

"I think if you keep staring at them like that, you might drive her right into his arms," Tory said from beside her. It didn't deter Frankie from her intense glaring, which caused Tory to laugh. "You do know that's how it always goes, right? Except, it's usually the overprotective dad that steers the sweet little innocent angel of a daughter away."

"I'm not listening to you," Frankie said flatly. She glared even harder, if that were possible, as she saw Hawk give Penelope a shell with a big grin on his face.

"Unless you're jealous," Tory said.

"Why would I be jealous?"

"I don't know. Maybe you actually like Hawk."

That made Frankie tear her gaze away and turn her glare onto Tory. "I do not like Hawk."

Tory smirked at her. She was leant back on her elbows, sunglasses pushed up onto her head, watching Frankie with teasing eyes. Since they had both joined Cobra Kai not that long ago, and at the same time, they had stuck together with Aisha as the only girls among the boys. While Frankie hadn't joined the dojo to make friends, she wouldn't be mad to say cool girls like them were her friends.

"Right," Tory said sarcastically. "You're just staring him down because you hate him?"

"Pretty much," Frankie told her and turned her head back to the ocean. For a moment, she couldn't find Hawk and Penelope and she sat up straighter, looking around for the two. After a moment of quick panic, she spotted them sitting with Aisha, Moon, and their giant sand castle. As she relaxed, she felt Tory's eyes still on her. "Okay, you're right. I'm protective."
