Ashton's POV
After I finally finished organizing the assignments for the day, I decided to go outside and greet my new students at the door.
I was excited to say the least. I loved making kids happy and teaching them in exciting ways. Learning had to be fun in order for it to actually make an impact.
One by one, the students came up and entered the class. Some of them looked tired, which is understandable. I don't think it's fair that they have to wake up so early. Some kids looked happy and joyful, which resulted in my heart beaming.
One kid who owned dirty blonde hair and blue eyes walked up. He had big bags under his eyes and looked down.
"Hey, I'm Mr. Irwin! Your teacher for the year."
I smiled and shook his hand, he smiled back.
"I'm Luke.."
His Australian accent was strong, given his age.
"You okay? You look down today, Luke."
I politely asked, ultimately concerned about him.
"Yeah, just tired."
I nodded understanding.
"Okay then. Breakfast will be here shortly."
He quickly nodded. I must've made it up but I swear I saw a flash of fear in his eyes.
After the last few students entered in, I walked in and shut the door.
"Okay class! Things have changed since last year. Instead of walking you all to the cafeteria for breakfast, you all will be having it here. Food fights were a little too frequent last year."
The class chuckled in response, causing me to smile.
"Mr. Irwin!"
A student, whose name is Zach called while his hand was raised.
"Yes?"
"What are you having? It's probably better than the food here."
I laughed and playfully smirked.
"I got Starbucks food and coffee! Jokes on you all!"
"Not fair!"
"Lucky!"
I laughed and heard a knock at the door. I went over and opened it, being met with the lunch lady bringing in a clear tote that had food for everyone.
"Thank you!"
I smiled and took the tote, placing it on a small table close to the door.
After shutting the door, I went back to the class.
"Come get your food, everyone! Use this time to talk to one another."
I walked back to my desk and sat down. I watched as each student went up and got their food. All except one student, Luke. Who was only accompanied with a bottle of water that he was gulping down.
Immediately alarm bells set off in my head, maybe I was being overprotective but I had to make sure.
I got up and went over to Luke, tapping his shoulder. He looked up at me with innocent blue eyes.
"Luke, are you gonna eat?"
I asked softly, like if I spoke too sternly it would scare him.
"I just.. feel a bit ill today.."
He frowned a bit. Maybe that was it, that was all it was.
"Okay then.. Just make sure to eat something at lunch, okay?"
He simply nodded and I left it at that.
I really hope he was just ill, not ill as in something else entirely.
