Luke's POV

I had managed to skip breakfast today, I hated counting calories at school as I had no idea what it was cooked with or anything.

I could've gotten a milk or something but still, it was too scary.

I was so in tune with the lesson to distract my stomach wanting to yell for food that the bell for Lunch time had made me jump.

"Okay class! I'll be leading you to lunch. Pack up your stuff and form a line by the door."

I put my assignment in my desk and the notebooks in a nice neat stack, as we were coming back here after lunch.

We all formed a line, me taking my place in the very back.

We were lead to lunch and as everyone got their tray of food, I decided to stick with a small carton of vegetables and a clementine.

I took my spot at the only empty table and stared at the food, not wanting to eat any of it.

I sighed and put my head down, only to lift it back up when Mr. Irwin sat across from me.

"Hello there, Luke."

He politely smiled, to which I returned.

"I'm guessing you're still feeling ill?"

I nodded and frowned, resting my chin on my arms.

"You know, eating something may help you feel better."

I scoffed and chuckled.

"If you mean the food here, I'm gonna have to say you're wrong. The food here causes bloating and stuff.."

"What makes you think that?"

"I mean.. It's what happens to me."

"Do you get that way after you eat anything?"

I looked at him, confused. Why does he wanna know all these things?

"Am I being interrogated?"

He chuckled and shook his head.

"No, not at all. I just wanna help."

I rolled my eyes at him.

"You're a middle school teacher, not a doctor."

"I am a dietitian as well, Luke. I help my patients through video calls and such."

I blinked at him, astonished.

"Okay, then help me lose some weight, Mr. Dietitian."

I spoke in a joking manner which earned a laugh from him, causing me to smile.

"Answer my question first."

I looked down and nodded.

"Yeah, I do."

"That could be a sign of not eating enough or not getting proper nutrients."

"But.. What if it's something else?"

"It could be but in those cases, it's rare for young teens."

I sighed and hid my head in my arms.

"I'm ending the conversation."

I declared, taking my small ration of fruit and veggies and throwing them away.

The school allowed us to walk around outside if we finished eating early so I headed out and sat by the fountain our school owned.

I disliked Mr. Irwin. I didn't want his help, all I needed was to cope. This is a way to cope for me.
