Michael's POV
Me and Luke decided to sit with Mr. Irwin in his class while we ate lunch to avoid any conflicts. I didn't wanna scare Luke again as he looked alot more fragile from the last fight I had with a kid and the whole purging relapse he told me about.
Me, Luke and Mr. Irwin were all chatting about everything and nothing. I noticed how he wasn't really eating, just sipping on a drink.
"Mr. Irwin, are you gonna eat?"
I immediately asked, not afraid of the consequences anymore.
He replied with a soft chuckle after another drink.
"I ate a bit ago, don't worry about it."
He gave a tense response, like he was caught off guard or something. His mood switched fast when I asked that.
I saw that his lunchbox was abandoned on the side of his desk. It obviously has been opened and I'm guessing he was right about eating earlier.
I noticed his face looked like he had just been crying for days and days. I was really starting to doubt how truthful Mr. Irwin was being.
We finished lunch and the entire time, Mr. Irwin didn't eat anything at all. I gleamed at Luke for finishing his plate, he was doing better and I honestly couldn't be any more proud.
We left the classroom with our empty trays and stayed out with everyone else in the cafeteria, waiting for the bell.
I got some leftover fruit salad and snacks they were giving out and headed back to my shared table with Luke.
I gave Luke some of the food and sat beside him.
"I think Mr. Irwin was lying.."
Luke spoke abruptly, sadness was really showing in his tone. It caught me by surprise if anything.
"About what?"
"Eating earlier. He didn't eat breakfast and I dunno.. He told me he struggled with this when he was my age and-"
"Luke, there's no way. He probably ate and whatever before he got here. He opened that fuckin lunchbox on his desk so.. I wouldn't worry too much."
"I would be worrying! What if he's relapsing? What if he didn't eat?"
"We have no idea if he is or if he did! We shouldn't worry yet at least."
He sighed, placing his head in his hands.
"Not yet.."
"Plus, we're just his students and you're his ex patient. We couldn't really do much.. He's an adult, Luke. He makes his own decisions."
"You don't understand!"
"I know I don't but I'm sure he isn't relapsing!"
Luke looked at me as tears were building up in his eyes.
"Are you sure?"
I nodded and wrapped my arm around him.
"Focus on your own recovery, Luke.. Don't stress over something that isn't even happening."
We were ultimately saved by the bell for our last class of the day. Me and Luke were the first ones to head to Health Class.
The one difference was how the classroom was empty. Mr. Irwin should've been in here by now.
It didn't take too long for everyone else to arrive, 15 minutes at most.
Everyone started whispering to each other as Mr. Irwin still wasn't here.
A teacher walked through the doorway and smiled at us.
"Hello, Class. I just wanted to say that Mr. Irwin will be a bit late, he ended up getting sick."
I looked at Luke and his eyes were blown wide, his accusations slowly being proven right.
Alarm bells were screaming in my head at the words the teacher spoke, knowing that it could be something so much worse.
"He ended up getting sick''
