^^Hailey

Zena's POV

I woke up to a parched throat. I wanted to call out, but found myself to be mute. My limbs were still numb, so all I could do was lie still. I made a little noise, resulting in movement. I couldn't turn my head, so I didn't see Hailey until she came into my line of sight.

"Good, you're awake. You've been unconscious for nearly a week, biquette." She wiped a tear. "How are you?" I didn't say anything. "Come on, biquette. Just tell me. I know you're angry, but... I really missed you."

Instead of even trying to formulate a response, I used all my energy to turn my head. Hailey sniffled, but I didn't have the energy or care to face her. Hailey slowly pulled my face towards her and sighed.

"You need to drink. It'll help you heal faster." She reached for a cup of blood, but my disgusted face stopped her. "I know you hate it, but it'll speed up your recovery. Lara had to use an enormous amount of venom to subdue you. That's why the effects are taking so long to wear off."

I still didn't give her any indication of wanting to drink the liquid. Hailey sighed and ran a hand through her hair. She stood and gave me a pitiful look.

"Drinking can wait." She concluded. "I need to inform your parents that you're awake." I gave her a dirty look. "I can ban anyone from entering except your parents. That I can't do." I rolled my eyes at her. "Biquette, just try and understand. We're all worried about-"

Hailey was cut off by the door opening and my parents blocking my view. I rolled my eyes and looked off as mum cooed at me and Maman spoke to Hailey. Mum used her thumb to caress my cheek, which allowed her pointer finger to rest on my lip. I surprised her by biting her finger. Mum hissed, capturing the other's attention. Mum swiftly pulled back, but I had already gotten a taste of her blood. I gave her a murderous look while she appeared shocked.

"What the hell, Zena?!" Maman chastised me, so I lowly growled at her.

"I thought you got rid of her counterparts." Mum turned to Maman.

"I did, meaning this is just Zena." Maman spoke through gritted teeth. "Zena, I'm sorry. There weren't many options to get you back and... you can't speak, can you? Or move for that matter." Maman held my hand. "She didn't flinch, meaning she doesn't have control over her limbs." She sighed and lowered my hand.

"Zena, no one willingly wanted to cage you, but there weren't many options." Mum spoke. I could tell she was vehemently against it, but giving the illusion of supporting Maman.

"Zena, can you try and make a sound?" Maman nervously questioned, but I stayed mum.

"She's gone back to being mute." Hailey sniffled.

"Z, we're all here for you. We're going to help you get Acacia back-" I snarled at Maman, making her sigh. "Have you felt the bond between you and Acacia sever?" I narrowed my eyes at her because how on earth could she think that I'd give up on Acacia so easily?! "Based on what I'm sensing, you think I believe you wouldn't fight to find her. That's not what I meant. If your bond severed, she'd be dead. Because it's still intact, she's alive." My eyes softened at her words. "We don't know where she is, but she's still breathing. Now, we plan on finding her, but can't include you until you return to normal."

My eyes glanced to mum, who looked apologetic. My features hardened and I could only imagine the vile ways in which I yearned to murder her. Wonder what she'd say when she sees me, the respectful and responsible daughter, killing her while her homicidal daughter looks on in despair. She and no one else will ever underestimate me again. I can be just as bad and should be feared like Yeira. She shouldn't be given leeway when I have more history with our parents. If anything, they should love me more and not compromise their values for a pathetic, lowlife, piece of shit!
