Chapter 36 / Return × and × Retire

You slowly wake up to a muscular built person picking you up gently, your eyes flutter open to see that the King is carrying you. He notices you're awake but doesn't say anything and just continues to carry you in bridal style. You notice a rusty blood smell and look over the King's shoulder to see another dead body where he was playing.

It was the body of a young pale girl. The player he was supposed to play with when you went to sleep. Your heart dropped into your stomach and you felt an overwhelming sense of dread and sadness wash over you like you where standing underneath a waterfall of emotions.

There was nothing to be done now. It's too late to save her. Pouf was getting rid of the dead bodies that were caused by the King as well as the pools of blood. You just sank further into the King's arms while you looked away from the body.

"Don't worry, I won't kill you like the others.. Pitou will also never be allowed to hurt you again. I've already discussed it with him, isn't that right Pitou?"

Your heart sinks once again hearing his name. You hear him talk near your head making you bend your head back to see if he's actually right there. " Yes sir. I will protect the young girl as I protect the King. It is my duty."

You look up at the King, confused and tired," Why? Why are you doing this?" The King looks at you for a brief moment before looking straight ahead again while he walks with you in his arms. "I will tell you when you are ready. Now let me ask you a question since you've been able to talk recently. What is your name?"

Your face turns into shock, it never hit you until just now that they never knew your name. "Oh- it's uhm- Y/n.." You see a slight smile on the King's face as we reach two large doors. "What a gorgeous name. Now Y/n, I have surprise for you."

You were about to question him but the doors are pushed open by Pitou showing the outside yard. It looks to be about Midnight. The yard looked freshly cut and flowers and bushes scattered the area. The King gently and slowly let's you down as you stare at the outside in awe. It's been too long since you've seen the outside world. Ever since that night with Kite, you haven't since the sky for yourself.

"Do you think this is a good idea sir?"

"She'll be okay," The King says to Pitou. Energy surges through your body like it once did again. You want to run and never stop running but you know of you tried to escape, you would be caught and you'll never see the light of day again.

"You can go run around if you want, Y/n. I trust that you won't escape. I'm giving you the freedom now to enjoy fresh air, you need it. Ever since Pitou has had you, you never go outside, so here's your chance to go have fun. Pitou and I will make sure nothing happens-"

You don't let him finish, you sprint into the yard while smiling. You felt so free even though you knew you weren't completely free yet. You laughed while you ran up a tall hill that was in the yard and took a deep breath. You were in a lot of pain but it didn't matter, what mattered that you were outside again.

You looked up at the stars lovingly. The night sky was clear and beautiful as it showed off all the stars in the night sky. You wished to be one with the stars one day. To dance along with them as we watch our loved ones from high above the sky. To be at ultimate peace, to have the ultimate freedom, the peace and freedom we all long for.

'Maybe I should move out here when this is all over. Hisoka, Illumi, Jay, Prince, and Midnight.. All of us, enjoying a peaceful life out here away from the populated area where you live now..'

You start to feel sad remembering all of those names. Your family. They were your family and yet they all probably don't have a clue where you have gone or even if you're okay. You have to get out of this alive even if it means getting out barely alive. By all means necessary.

The King has been letting you go out in the yard at night while you play Gungi with the King during the daytime. But that only lasted a couple days. Now you haven't even been able to leave his side at all costs. He explained that people were trying to break into the palace but Pouf and Youpi had it under control.

"Can I go explore the palace with Pouf since he's going to check the surrounding area?"

"Pouf, if anything happens to her, I will kill you.." The King immediately warns to Pouf who just bowed down to the King," Yes sir. This way ma'am.." You tilt your head in confusion before looking at the King. "Why is he all of sudden calling me ma'am?" The King gives an angry glare to Pouf he just fucked up.

"Because Y/n I want you to be my queen.."

You stood there in shock and confusion but a thought flashed through your head. Maybe this is your way to escape. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer. This had to be the way of finding a way out. Somehow this was going to be your chance.

"M-me? Is that even possible?"

The King is slightly shocked at your response, expecting an immediate no from you but instead you "actually accepted" it. "Yes it is, would you like that Y/n? For it to be me and you to rule this world together?" You were almost at a lost for words. Wasn't he supposed to be a monster? What was this kindness he was so willing to be with you? What did it mean?

"Y-yes I would l-like that a lot.."

It hurt more than anything to say those words because all you could think about was Hisoka and Illumi. All you wanted to do was be in their embrace again. You wanted this hell to be over. Hot tears started rolling down your cheeks eventually breaking you into a quiet sob.

The King immediately comes over to you and lifts up your face by your chin," What's wrong, Y/n?" You sniffle while wiping the tears off your face. "I'm sorry for being so emotional.. I just don't understand why you're so kind and nice to me. Why do you want me to the queen?"

He suddenly brings you into a hugging embrace, you freeze. "It's okay cry. Ever since I've met you, there's been an instinctive emotion inside me that tells me to protect you as if you were mine. You were so vulnerable to everything around you. I want to see you be stronger than you were before and now. And even if I don't conquer the entire world, I'm okay with that as long as I have you.."

The King slightly pulls away and place his hands on either sides of your cheeks before placing a gentle kiss on your forehead. "Now go with Pouf, I'll come get you if anything happens.." More tears roll down your cheek remembering how Hisoka would give you forehead kisses.

You turn around swiftly to catch up with Pouf who seemed annoyed and pissed off slightly. After a couple minutes, you finally stopped crying and as Pouf was checking the rooms you decided roam around since you were getting slightly bored. You stayed within his En as you made your way to a grand staircase.

Your dark red aura spiked as you felt someone's fear. Human fear. Your body tenses up. There shouldn't be any humans over here. Was this someone who was trying to sneak in.

You peak down the staircase and see a woman brown hair and cute dress. Your heart drops. She will be killed if she stays here. For a brief moment, your eyes meet her terrified and guarded ones.

You're about to go down to her but then you see Pouf's En slowly pulling back away before disappearing making you furrow your eyebrows. "P-pouf-?" You were about to turn around when you were trapped in Pitou's En suddenly, scaring you.

"K-King!"

Not even a second later, a quick breeze is felt on your back and hand is felt on your waist, pulling you close to their body. You quickly snap your head towards the person and it's the King. "Come on, Y/n, we have to go.." You quickly look down the railing and to see that she's being dragged away by Pitou and Pouf and the King follows suit curiously.

'Shit..'

A chill rolls down your spine while a hot tear goes down your check. You felt like you could have helped but in reality, could you? Would you been have been able to get down their quick enough and when you did, how would you get out with her safety with that super human speed of Pitou's?
