Fluff / Friendship

🎸

Izzy invited me to go to the studio with the guys today. I, of course, agreed and said I'd meet him there a little later since I had some papers to grade.

Let me back up just a second.

I'm Duff's hometown friend. I grew up in Seattle with him. So I've known him practically my whole life.
When he moved to LA, so did I. Not because I wanted to follow Duff, but because I got accepted into UCLA.
I'm a middle-school English teacher and a GNR "merch girl" when they play.

I hadn't seen Duff in a few weeks. I moved out of our shared apartment when I'd landed a job an hour away. I quickly found an apartment closer to work but stayed with Duff.

This is why Izzy decided it was a good idea to surprise Duff with me.

I never got dressed up to go to the studio; I never saw a reason to. So I got in my car dressed in a baggy Aerosmith t-shirt and leggings with Vans on my feet and a tiny sweater. In my left hand, I had my backpack with clothes for the weekend and my travel files with papers that needed to be graded.
Usually, I leave my work at home, but I found the last time I was at the studio that it's the perfect grading environment. Which sounds crazy, I know, but the music and chatter help me focus.

I made the hour drive to the studio and walked in through the front door. I followed the sound of Duff's bass and quickly found the room they were in. I set my bags on the floor and got the group's attention the only way I knew.

"Guess who's back bitches?"
I shouted.

"Carrots!"
Duff said, smiling brightly and making his way towards me, but not without setting his bass carefully on the floor.

"Hey, Green, Be-okay. I'm off the ground."
I said, surprised at the bone-crushing hug.

"Missed you Carrots; you fuckin' forgot about me once you got your place."
Duff said, pouting slightly once he set me down.

"Sorry, Green Bean, I got work, though."
I smiled.

"Not to interrupt the lover's quarrel, but hey, June."
Izzy said calmly.

"Hey, Iz."
I laughed.

Eventually, all the boys said hi but quickly returned to work. Next, I set up at one of the coffee tables and began grading the essays that had been turned in throughout the week.

"Need help, Carrots?"
Duff asked, sitting next to me on the couch.

"Shouldn't you be fingering your bass right now?"
I smirked.

"Very funny. My fingering is done for the day, though."
He teased back.
"So, what do you need help with?"

"I don't need help with anything."

"Oh, come on. Give me some boring papers to read and a pretty pen, and go take a break."
He said calmly.

I nodded and went to get water from the vending machine. I grabbed a couple of bags of cookies and some water before heading back into the studio and sitting beside Duff.
