Fluff

🎸

I woke up startled by the sound of someone banging on the door of my house. Well, not a house, a mobile home, really. I live in an old tour bus that me and my dad renovated. I'm 20 and didn't want to live at home with my parents. So I scrapped up all the money I had, bought my bus, and fixed it up.
Of course, I had no idea who would be at my house at midnight, in the middle of December, no less, so I was careful when I approached the door. I looked through the small peephole and saw a tired-looking Duff on the other side, both of his kids asleep on his hips. I quickly unlocked and opened the door as fast as I could.

"Duff? Wha- Are you okay?"
I asked as I ushered him inside.

"I hate just to show up, Bug. But, please, let us stay here tonight."
He asked softly, seeing how his kids were sleeping peacefully.

"Sure. Let me get some blankets, and they can sleep on the spare bunks."
I said quietly, motioning to the bunks.

When me and my dad redid the bunks, we removed the top ones and put in a place for shelves. So that's where I keep spare blankets, sheets, towels, you know, things like that.
I quickly grabbed some blankets, since I always have sheets and pillows ready, and laid them out before going back to Duff.

"You need help, or are you okay?"
I asked since I know he can be protective over his kids and want to do everything himself at times.

"Will you put Aspyn to bed? Then, I can put Myles to bed."
He asked.

"Sure, Duff."
I smiled softly, reaching to maneuver the three-year-old from her father's arms.

We headed back to put the kids to bed, tucking them in and making sure they were comfortable before heading back to what I call the living room. The room itself is small. It has enough room for a couch, which is also a pull-out bed, a small stand, and two small recliners. The TV is attached to a corner wall but can rotate to face anywhere in the room.

"Thanks, June. I promise we'll be out in the morning."
Duff rushed out, his hands clasped together in front of him.

"It's not a problem. You know I love having you guys around."
I said, smiling.

"Michael, why aren't you guys at home?"
I asked softly.

"I got home from work, and my kids were on the porch with all their things in bags; they were asleep on the porch swing with a blanket. So I went inside to talk to Ashley, and I found a note on the kitchen table. It said that she didn't want to be a mother, and there were papers in one of the bags where she had signed her parental rights away. She said she wanted my stuff gone by midnight. So, I threw everything into the pickup, grabbed my kids, and now we're here."
He explained from his spot next to me on the couch.

"Oh, Duff, I'm so sorry."
I said, moving to embrace him.

"I- I wish she would have given me more time. To find a place for us."
He sighed once we pulled away.

"You could always live here, Duff."
I said, knowing I had more than enough space for all three of them.

"June, I couldn't. I wouldn't ask that of you."
Duff rushed out, shaking his head frantically.

"You're not asking Duff; I'm offering. It's no problem, really. You work, and so do I, so we'll have more than enough money to support ourselves. Besides, I have plenty of room to keep the kids' things and yours. The kids can have the bunks, and you can sleep with me. I even have the closet space."
I explained, chuckling when I mentioned my ample closet space.
