❤Duff #25- Kids

"So, how're the kids?"

The question was simple enough. It wasn't meant to be malicious, she knew that. But somehow it still sent a pang of hurt into June's chest.

"They're great. Ace is starting kindergarten in the fall and Liv will turn two in July."

June said with a small smile.

"Any more on the way?"

"Not right now."

She smiled uneasily.

"Duff still in the picture?"

The woman nosily asked.

"Of course he is."

June said quickly, and a bit defensively.

"I don't mean to offend. I just remember when you were much younger you always talked of wanting 6 and 7 kids. I'm surprised you don't have another bun in the oven yet."

The older lady explained sweetly.

"Not yet. Hopefully soon."

June smiled kindly, willing her tears away.

"Well, I'll let you get on with your shopping, dear. It was nice to see you."

"You as well."

She offered kindly before continuing to grab the remaining items on her list.

When June opened her front door she was met with her son squealing happily at her arrival.

"Mama!"

Ace said happily, hugging her waist.

"Hi, baby."

She cooed, patting Ace's head.

"Food, Mama."

Ace pointed to the grocery bags that had been carelessly dropped on the floor.

"Yeah, baby. Where's Daddy?"

"Right here. Little booger took off."

He smiled sweetly, bouncing Liv as he walked.

"Will you help me grab the groceries?"

June asked, grabbing a squealing Olivia from her father.

"Sure, baby."

Duff kissed her cheek, grabbing the discarded bags on their floor.

June smiled and led her kids to the kitchen where she and Duff put away the groceries she'd bought.

"W'na talk?"

Duff asked softly, noticing something was off.

"Later."

June weakly smiled.

Duff nodded and kissed his wife's forehead before heading into the living room with their kids.

"The kids asleep?"

June asked, looking up from her book.

"Mhm. Liv might be up in a few hours, but it's my day anyway."

Duff said, getting some sweats from his dresser.

"Its your day?"

June asked, marking her page.

"Mhm."

He nodded, pulling his jeans down.

"Why didn't you tell me? I should've put them to bed."

June sighed, putting her book on her bedside table.
