Angst, Fluff

"But Daddy, you promised."
My daughter cried into the phone.

"I know, baby. But Daddy can't make it home."
Steven said sadly.

"But why?"
She cried, her blue eyes beginning to leak with tears.

"Our plane can't leave, baby. It's too snowy."
Steven explained softly.

"I hate you."
She cried before angrily shoving the phone in my hands and running to her room.

"Everlee Jude Adler."
I said, trying to call her back down.

"It's fine, Sweetheart."
Steven said over the phone.

"No, baby, it isn't. I know she's upset, but she knows better."
I sighed.

"She has everything right to be upset. She loves Christmas and I promised her I'd be home."
He said softly.

"It's not your fault, Steven. It's the weather. You'll be home a few days late, but you're gonna come home."
I resolved, sitting down on the couch.

"She hates me."
He whispered.

"No she doesn't, she's just upset."
I explained.

"She wouldn't be upset if I was there, and I'd be there if I wasn't touring, and-"

"Steven Adler, you stop that right now."
I harshly cut him off.

"You are doing what you love. You've been home every time you said you would be and this is the last leg of the tour. You'll be home and life will be okay."
I said, trying to ease his worries.

"But she hates me."
He whimpered.

"No, honey, she doesn't."
I sighed, feeling a lump build inn my throat hearing him so upset.

"Then why does it feel like she does?"
Steven sniffled.

"Steven, honey, please don't cry. It's okay. She's just a little upset is all. That doesn't mean she hates you, no matter what she said. You're her dad and she'll always love you, no matter how sad she is."
I explained softly.

"I-I'm gonna go, babe. Everyone else is asleep."
Steven said quietly.

"Okay, baby. Get some sleep. Call us tomorrow once you hear some news, okay?"
I asked, twirling the phone cord around with my finger.

"I will. Goodnight, Angel. Se- call you tomorrow."
Steven practically whispered.

"Talk to you tomorrow, baby. I love you."
I sighed sadly.

"I love you too, honey. Bye."

"Bye."
I said back before hanging up and putting my head in my hands.

"Momma?"
Everlee's voice waivered from behind me.

"Ev."
I sighed, turning around and opening my arms for her. She quickly ran into my arms, letting out gut-wrenching sobs.

"Shh, baby, it's okay."
I soothed, running a hand through her bouncy blonde hair that was almost identical to her father's.

"I was mean to Daddy!"
She wailed.

"I know, Sweetheart; it's okay."
I soothed, hoisting her on my hip.

"Wanna see Daddy."
She whimpered.

"I know, honey, me too. Daddy's going to be home soon."
I whispered softly.

"But Christmas."
She cried.
