With Roman Godfrey, she either wanted to punch him or understand him. There was no in between. He was just impossible. End of story. She didn't want to think anymore.

"Alexa play teeth by 5 seconds of summer," she said as she hopped into the shower.

"Playing teeth by 5 seconds of summer," the virtual assistant said as the song began to play.

Chantel took her time and chose a blue mini dress with daisies on it. She let her hair loose and clipped it on both sides. It felt like old times, when she'd dress up cute to meet Zach Dearing. But this wasn't a date, it was just a casual dinner. Nothing more.

She decided to reach an hour early so that she could help Zach out with dinner. When they were dating, they'd cook dinner together during the weekends, that was their thing. She grabbed a bottle of white wine from the fridge, since Susan only drank white.

Patty Dearing lived a good three and half mile away from Chantel's house. Zach had been residing in Hemlock Grove at his grandmother's place for over two years before he suddenly left town last fall. Chantel could clearly remember, that morning when he showed up at her doorsteps and told her: he was leaving town to go and stay with his father and his step family at Pittsburgh. Chantel hadn't realised at that moment, that Zach wasn't coming back.

He never gave her an explanation to why he left, he just packed his bags and left and never came back. It was her first breakup, her first heartbreak. Roman had been there for her, he filled the hole in her heart and they became best friends ever since.

Now she stood outside the door of the Dearing's and knocked. Zach appeared wearing a maroon floral printed apron. "You look lovely," he complimented her with a smile, "and please ignore the apron, it's grandma's," he laughed.

"You look great," she chuckled handing him the bottle of wine.

"The good stuffs huh," he took the bottle from her. "Come in, come in." He invited.

"So what are we making?" She asked as she entered the familiar kitchen, with chipped brick walls and wooden kitchen cabinets. The pots and pans were really colourful, the way grannies like it.

"I'm the chef for the day," Zach said as he opened the wine for her, "have a glass of wine." He poured the drink into a pumpkin shaped glass.

"Let me help," she offered.

"Not today, bambi." He gave her a wink as he got back to work. He used to call her that while they were dating because the first time they met, she was wearing a sweatshirt with a picture of the young fawn bambi on it.

Last summer Susan moved Chantel from Rosewood to Hemlock Grove after finding out that the young girl was suffering from anxiety and depression. She admitted the sixteen year old in Hemlock Acres, under the care of Dr Norman Godfrey.

That's where she met Zach Dearing. Chantel was seated on a bench, reading the novel 'Doctor Sleep' by Stephen King. Stephen King was her all time favourite author.

"You don't look like the kind of girl who's into horror novels," a voice said.

Chantel glanced up and saw a teenager looking down on her, he was tall with light brown hair, his eyes were hazel and he had that cute boy next door smile on his face.
