They informed Dr Norman Godfrey about the tragedies and he came to their aid, by the time the man reached—Peter Rumancek had already turned back to his original form and was very much alive. Roman and Chantel drove back to the manor, where Olivia was waiting for them. The woman in white silks, glided down the stairs as the teenagers walked in hand in hand.
"Tell me," she spoke as she reached the end of the staircase.
Roman looked at his mother, "she's gone."
"What do you mean? Where?" Olivia asked.
Roman sniffed. Chantel squeezed his hand gently. "The girl," she told Olivia. "Uh, Christina—she was the killer."
Olivia took a deep breath and questioned, "and what happened to Christina?"
"Uh, she's dead." Chantel explained softly, "Shelley...Uh, Shelley saved us."
"The Sheriff thought Shelley did it. He shot her and she ran off." Roman voice heavy, "I couldn't find her." He was on the brink of tears.
Olivia looked at Roman sadly as she pulled him into a hug, "babies, my babies."
Roman cried on his mother's shoulder, that was the very first time—Chantel witnessed a different side of Roman and Olivia's relationship.
While details remain vague, it appears that the perpetrator of last night's Hemlock Grove killing and those that preceded it was the disfigured and mentally ill biotech heiress Shelley Godfrey. She was wounded perhaps fatally, by Sheriff Thomas Sworn, but a body has yet to be recovered. It is unclear whether there were other witnesses to the incident.
The news article read. Chantel's stomach turned. How dare they call Shelley Godfrey the disfigured and mentally ill biotech heiress! How dare they blame her without valid evidence! And on the other hand, Susan Channing bombarding her with endless calls and messages has pushed Chantel on the edge. She switched off her phone, she really didn't care if her mother grounded her for life—she was adding more fuel to the fire because Susan just didn't know when to stop.
Roman was seated besides her in silence, reflecting on what happened back there at the chapel. Chantel knew how much Roman cares for Shelley and how hard it was for him to witness her being shot and running away. He was trying his best to be strong but even a heart of stone can be broken.
Olivia announced. "Norman and I've spoken, the town is gonna need an explanation. One that answer more questions than it raises, one that still protects the ones who are still here. Your names won't be part of it. It's been arranged with Tom, none of you were ever there."
"So we're just gonna say it's Shelley?" Chantel looked at Olivia in disbelief. "She saved us, she's not the vargulf. Christina is."
"Peter won't be safe, if they know the truth." Olivia stated the obvious.
Chantel didn't know what to do, she just wanted to hurl something away. Roman didn't respond.
"This will be the hardest thing you ever have to do," Olivia said to Roman. "But for the town to heal and the family to move forward, they can never know the truth."
Roman huffed deeply.
"They need a villain. I will make all necessary arrangements. The sheriff acted alone and he saw what he saw." Olivia continued, "it's what she would have wanted. She would have wanted to save what pain she could." Olivia looked at Chantel, "we're Godfrey's...and what we say happened, happened."
"I don't think I can go along with this..." Chantel almost chocked on her words.
Olivia put a hand on Chantel's shoulder, "you're one of us now darling, there's no other way."
