We slowly walked into Elyza's room. I barely recognised the girl in the hospital bed. She lay so lifeless. Her skin was pale, almost as pale as mine. Her raven hair rested over her prostrate form in loose ringlets. Elyza looked so frail... So dead. Yet, she was somehow, gently breathing. A tube was down her throat, feeding her oxygen and a monitor was beeping in slow, steady beeps to show her heart rate. "Hello, Mr. Destler, Miss Reagan", the woman spoke sadly. I looked at her and she averted her eyes to the patient. "I am afraid Elyza will not remember anything that has happened over the past two years. Also, both of her legs have been shattered completely and will take a very long time to heal. She may or may not be able to speak and she will have to be fed by either of you. I really am sorry." With that, she left the room. It took all of my strength to not break down and cry. My sweet Elyza won't remember me at all. And... She will be in so much pain. I walked over and sat beside her. Liz-Marie just stood staring at her sister in shock. I rested a bony, cold hand over hers, letting the tears fall. I spoke, trying to steady my voice. "Elyza Genevieve Reagan... I am so sorry. You were unprepared for madness. And in that brief, sweet moment, so was I... You will not remember me when you regain consciousness, but please ... Try to remember the music. You are so very loved." Elyza's eyes stayed shut, but I hoped she had heard me. "I love you."
