Erik's words pierced me like a knife, hit me like a truck, but I had no words to say, for he had left and my mouth had dried. That word was something he had never used, but that didn't concern me at the moment. What concerned me was where we would be living from then on. Elyza was just so... Not herself. I knew it was because of the accident, but the accident... Was Erik's fault after all.. I hate to say it, but if he hadn't been so damn possessive, Elyza wouldn't have tried to escape. Now that I think about it, Mr. Destler never was very nice. If he were nice all the time, people would take that for granted, but what would happen if he was nice just because he could be? How would this person react if he did this? Or said that? He always wanted to know the point, but no answer could ever satisfy him. Now, I knew why he was always so reserved. Distance and coldness keeps people away. He didn't want to get attached, but he did and this was his downfall. Now, I get it. Never trust anyone too much in the world because even your shadow leaves you when you're in darkness. That was it.
