Stepping back to base is like stepping back into the past. Everything was the exact same. I pull out a cigarette and light it.
"I can't believe I would be coming back." Jax says leaning in for a light for his own cigarette.
"Bus is pulling in now." General Hugh comes over and pulls out our cigarettes.
Boys file out of the bus once the door opens. General Hugh starts his speech as they all listen.
"Our Veterans from the battle against Ballton will give you a tour around the school." We get volunteered to do it.
The generals walk away as the boys stare blankly at us. I pull out a two cigarettes and light them both. I hand one to Jax and then inhale deeply on mine.
"Follow us." I order blowing out smoke.
I show them the mess hall, infirmary and the barracks. After everything is basically covered I take them all back to the barracks and claim my old bed. Oliver gets his bed and Jax gets his. Alan takes Henry's old bed so that none of the other snotty boys will get it. I pull out one of Henry's letters to me. It has a number two on the top right corner.
"Dear Scarlett,
I hope you are back into training camp right now. There is a small chance you didn't take my advise. Anyways, I wanted to tell you that I love you. Hopefully I handed you this letter but if I died in battle I want you to know that your amazing. Don't let those boys throw you down and walk all over you because you are better than them. Keep up your good work and please win this war at all cost. People deserve the chance to live and die and I hope you give it to them. I love you so much.
Love always,
Henry"I fold it back up and put it in the envelope.
"I love you too, Henry." I whisper to my self before I fall asleep.
Nightmares are all about the same thing. They all leave me the same way. Even though I expect it, it's still so painful. I lean my head to look at the lower bunk. Oliver is sleeping peacefully. I look over at Alan and Jax. Alan is sleeping soundly but Jax is wide awake.
"Jax." I whisper.
"Do you have nightmares too?" He ask frighten from his.
"Yes," I nod.
"Let's go see if we can steal a cookie from the mess hall." I climb out of my bunk and walk with him.
I check for anybody passing down the hall before we dash to the mess hall. Once we get the clear we sprint. Nobody catches us when we walk into the kitchen.
"There." I point at a small cookie jar on top of a cabinet.
Jax gives me a boost up as I quietly sneak to the cookie jar. I firmly grab it and open it up.
"What are yall doing?" A deep voice whispers from behind us.
